I bought a 96 Tahoe with a 4" Rancho lift kit on it. I ahve notice that the right side has a wobble at 45 MPH. I put the Tahoe up on a friends hoist and ran the it in 4 low. The right side had a wobble because the CV shaft seemed to be bnding while turning. Does it need to be exstended of just replaced? :usa:

A 4 inch lift should not make that much difference. It is possible that it needs to be lengthened to be ideal, but it would probably be just fine how it is. You say the cv is 'binding', the working angle may be too steep for that cv now that the truck is lifted. Different CV joints have differing working limits. Saginaw styly CV joints do not work at steep angles. Spicer style CV joints run at steeper angles. The 'High angle' driveline is the CV that runs at the steepest angle. Look closely at your CV when it is turning, if it is a saginaw style, you may be able to grind away some of the material on each ear where they contact the H bracket. Some folks may say grinding material away is dangerous, but there is plenty of material where I am referring to. I was able to do this on the front driveline of my '79 k5 with a 6 inch lift and get approx. another 15 degrees of usable drop. Good luck. One other question. Does your front driveling even have a CV? If not you may need to get one. My '92 3/4 ton 4x4 chev. truck does not have a CV front shaft. It just has a standard 2 u-joint driveshaft.

Your CV is probably just bad... I cant imagine you have angles that bad with a standard 4" kit.. I started with a 4" Kit and custom made it into a 7" and have really hard angles and still have no binding.. Of course I had to do a ball joint flip and run ball joint spacers and then space down the diff one more inch on the passenger side but thats a different story... Heres a pic of my angles.. As long as your less angled than this you should be fine and its just a matter or rebuilding the cv.. If there ever was gonna be any binding it would be on the passenger side first because for some strange reason thats the side that always binds first.. to check for binding, jack the wheel off the ground and turn the tire.. if it binds youll know because it will fight you. If there is indeed a wobble id check the ball joints and steering linkage, could be a worn pitman arm or idler arm or tie rod

Ummmm.. there your problem With the truck on a lift the joints are at very extreme angles that there not supposed to be at. Lower it back down, put jack stands on the front lower control arms and on the rear axle and try again.

But as stated before, my guess is you got a bad cv joint.
