I want to know what people prefer to run for spark plugs. I am setting up a 304, auto, for off-road use. I have been running autolite in the past and am not real happy with the life span of these plugs. any ideas?

the $2 Botch Platnums..... work good.

MSD or Jacobs ($$$) wires.... cut to fit.

My favorite have always been Bosch Tri-Electrodes ~ now a days they have the +2 and the Quad-Electrode. I just get a nice 60,000V coil from summit, nicer wires, the plugs and call it good. No need for an MSD or Jacobs.

Autolite 85s in everything.

Might run Platinums in a few of the rigs.. race rig gets the reg'lar 85s.. and replaced a lot more frequently than most people even think the word "Spark Plug"..

Haven't changed 'em in the trail rig since I put the new motor in..

Currently, i got no clue, whatever the PO put in there.
Going to the 85's after I git rid of the Flintstone brakes. Passenger side Flintstones coming soon!!!

Hey Scout Dude,

I wanted results this month. I knew you guys would speak up faster as more people visit the POR than the BB. Is this question too difficult to consider or do all questions have to be about hard core information?

This question is technical in nature and actually help some people is choosing better parts for their rigs.

You spending time with Hooder? :smokin:

More folks visit the BB TechTalk than PBB IH section hands down!

Mine does.. when a plug starts to foul after a few races. :D Only does it at "idle" (I say "idle" since idle is about 1300rpm..).. goes away once the throttle is applied. :D

I guess it sounded like a tractor a bit when I tore out the motor mounts and the engine torqued over and punched one of the shock hoop mounting bolts through the header..

gee Tom,

I like the BB, but I don't get as many responses, maybe it's just the people who frequent the POR like to yak more.

I have posted questions on both formats and almost always get more responses from the POR. Not that that is always a good thing. Sometimes the subjects turn into an ugly expression of what a newbie I am since I ask such silly questions.

I figure growing up in a wrecking yard - I can rip most anything apart - my problem is putting things back together and not having a box of parts left over.

I do agree that the BB does get a lot of visitors, they just don't vocalize as much, and the best folks to answer these kinds of questions will be on both sources.

Yes, but 99% of them are 'ASKING' questions, not answering.

Champion plugs that have been side gapped work extremely well in my 283 small chevy. The regular champion copper plugs work out the best when side gapped.

Personally i have never had good luck with Champions, When i had a set on my 72 1210 392 one day it would run great the next it would run like crap, once i replaced the Chamions with some Boushs it seems to run good all the time.
