I am posting this for a friend from another board, so here it goes.

Aight heres the deal, ive got a D44 out of a 81 J-10. Its a 6 lug wide track axle, WM-WM is 64.5 in. Its for my Nissan Hardbody and now that im looking at my options for a rear axle im thinking about going 8-lug. I know its easy to convert 6 lug to 8, but my problem is i want it to stay 64.5 in. wide. From my calculations if i put eight lug hubs on its going to make it a full witdh axle @ 67.5 in. I would love it if some one had the knowledge to tell me otherwise.

Trade your J-10 axle for a Wagoneer axle, and convert that... would put you at about 64"

So there is no way to convert the J-10 axle to 8 lug without gaining all that width. Also when converting to 8 lug, is there a difference between 6 and 8 lug spindles? Knuckles? The only change in width is within the hubs correct, just like dually and SRW 60 hubs?
