Since I blew up the C6 in my 85 truck, I am thinking about putting in a 4 spd. I know where I can pick up a t-19 from an 83 with all the pedals and linkage. However, it appears that I am might have troubles finding a flywheel for my internally balanced 78 lincoln 460, and a bellhousing. I have done a quick search through this site and the ford truck enthusiasts site. I have also looked on ebay, in the local buy and sell, and called the local dealership (they are a bunch of idiots) and the local parts houses. I was out junkyarding with a buddy yesterday, and also looked while we were there with no luck. Do these flywheels and bellhousings exist?? I found a flywheel on ebay, but it will only accept an 11 inch clutch. Because this is a tow rig, I would like to be able to go with a 12.
So what do you guys think? Should I just forget about the manual tranny? Is there any simple solution to this? I really would like to put in the manual, even if it costs a little more in the long run.

I think I might have it figured out now. I found a guy that might be willing to do some trade work. He has a 76 F-250 with a 460/435/205. Lots of goodies on this 460 too. New headers, performer intake, malory dist and coil, and a few other things. But this is where it gets complicated. I don't get the motor. However, he has another motor out of an 86 F-350 that has a lot of the same stuff, but it has a blown head gasket and possible flat cam. The lower end has low miles on it though. So, I might end up with that motor, the 435 and 205. Then, I throw a stick in it, and get an externally balanced flywheel and I'm set.... oh yeah, change the head gasket. LOL Anyway, I'm going to look at the truck tomorrow.
I did the sme thing to an 80 ford only I added 4wd at the same time. You have to make sure that the linkage you have will work with the bell housing you find. Initially I had a 302 w/mech. linkage, then went to a 429 and had the same trouble you are havingThe bell housing I found ( aluminum) was out of a newer rig 89&up I think but I also had to use a hydraulic linkage which is easier to put it than the steel linkage. As for the flywheel you can use one out of a 390 it will bolt on and is balanced right. 11" is'nt a big problem but I had to buy a cenrerforce clutch to put behind my 429. Then I had 429/435/208. Good luck

So what clutch fork did you use with that setup? Also, what starter did you use?
I used the clutch fork out of the doner rig w/the hydraulic (external) setup. As for the starter I believe I used the one out of a 79 460. The bell housing came out from behind a 2wd. That info should help a bunch. As for hydraulic clutch, when you put in your Z-bar (pedals) if they are mechanical just turn the ear that pushes the clutch rod down(should be a splined shaft). Turn that ear 60deg so when u push the clutch it moves anything attatched to in forward. Then drill 3 holes for you hyd. resevior attatch it to the ear presto.

You can also use a flywheel from a 390. Lots of em' used a 12 inch clutch and it'll bolt right up. Then you just need to get a bellhousing from a 80 or newer 460 to get the hydrualic clutch.

Don't FE blocks run a 40 or 50 oz imblance fly wheel, and the older 460 (385) family run a 0 oz fly wheel? I know they will bolt up, but I think the balance is off.
If you can use an FE flywheel, I have on here that has a 14" clutch. Not that I think you will ever find a bell that it will fit in.
The only FE with external balancing is the 428/410. all others are 0-balance to my knowledge.

That's what he needs...460 were all internally balanced until I think 79'

You will have to get driveshafts for a manual because the m/t is much shorter than the C6!

They are a little diffrent, but the 4 spd runs such a long tail shaft, that with the lift they will be close, esp if you changing the rears to one ton.
