Everyones getting down on the choice of a T5 behind the 5.0 HO L engine was going to add a dodge np205 divorced and this goes into my 4runner..
Im really looking for 1 ton running gear at this time and wondering if i can find something that can go into the set up i make (aka pass side drop setup)
Now if a T5 sucks balls then whats good then? Im not a ford guy and i don't know whats readily available in my area so an autowrecker may be the place for me to get a tranny other than a T5.
Give me some ford transmission tips!

ZF trans for a 5 speed, NP435 or T18 for a nearly indestructible 4spd w/ granny low. T5's are for mustangs :D

T-5's suck complete and total ass..... A buddy of mine in HS had a mildly built 5.0 in his mustang with a T-5, he tried to pull a 2500RPM launch, and instead of the car launching, there was a LOUD grinding sound. We wound up having to drag the car to the shop. When we pulled the tranny out, every tooth on the input shaft & cluster gear was sheared off. Only thing that aluminum cased POS was good for was scrap metal, and just barely.
If you're looking for a passenger side drop t-case, put a dana 300 out of a jeep or international behind a T18 or NP435. 4:1 kits are easy to get for the 300, and a 300 will hold up to a 302 quite well. To make life even better, a lot of the old scouts have a T-18/pass drop Dana 300 in them from the factory.

i was up pretty late last night reading a million threads about people doing the np435 swaps into toys jeeps and pathfinders...
Im realizing why aload of them run C6's autos
Is it really that much of a beotch to find a bellhousing fork and all the other gear to make a 435 work..
I guess best bet is to find everything you need all at once...
swap a ford front axle in when you swap the ford transmission and transfer case.
at least it sounds like you are starting to believe what I told you on PC4x4 about the T5

I'm not advocating using the T-5 for an offroad rig, there are definately more stout tran's (435/T-18/ZF), but I've launch my turbo'd 5.0 Capri @ 5500 on drag radials @ 8 PSI to the tune of a 1.68, 60' time and a 12.32 1/4 mile. I've also beat the crap out of that trans since I bought the Capri new in 87. Did waste a 3rd synchro once, but otherwise, it's been 20 years of abuse. I've launched @ 2500 RPM probably 1000 times. There are plenty of guys going real fast on stock T-5's.
