: Great....Another Blown Tranny?
GroundClearance 10-09-2006, 01:28 PM So today i'm "wheeling" (trail was basicly a poorly maintained drit road...) everything is going great, I'm in one of the 3 sections where you need 4lo after that I go back to 2wd and I can't shift into any gear, after some jiggling I get it in first and second but not third. Heres what I can and cant do
Can:
Shift from 1-2 but then no other gear
Shift from 1-3-4-5 but when I want to go back to 1 I have to shift back into 4
Can't:
Get it in R
Go from 2 to N, I have to shift to 1st first.
Wierd Stuff:
When in 4lo I shift to 1st fine, but then the stick goes to N but stays engaed
The rest of the time 2 and 3 do that, the other gears stick like always.
There is no grinding in the gears. What the hell is wrong?
GroundClearance 10-09-2006, 02:02 PM In a attempt to check some stuff out I made it worse, I removed the shifter and now I'm stuck in 4th (Maybe 3rd) gear. Heres the view I have where the shifter goes.

four27_cobra 10-10-2006, 12:18 AM without knowing what kind of trans it is, its kind of hard to diagnose it, but I would say that reguardless you need to at least pull the tranny out and take it apart to find out whats going on in there. It is possible you bent/broke a shift fork, or any other number of things.
GroundClearance 10-10-2006, 06:24 AM Woops orry, Its the POS BA10/5. I plan to pull it this weekend, but I'm wondering what to look for.
four27_cobra 10-10-2006, 08:28 AM I think that is the pugeot transmission isn't it? I believe that one of the weak links in those were the case itself, but if your case is not puking oil thats probably not the issue. When you pull it apart, honestly just start looking for things that don't look right. I know that sounds vague, but the issue will probably be more readily apparent than you are expecting. Have you ever had a trans. apart before? Best advice is make sure you do it somewhere clean, so if any little metal bits or pieces come out you will see them. If you are unhappy with the tranny, why not just replace it with a stronger unit instead of trying to diagnose it?

A new one
GroundClearance 10-10-2006, 12:28 PM Haha, I'm getting ready to sell this POS, so I just want it fixed, If I can't easly do that then I may well try and throw a NV3500 in.
Diesel Smoke 10-10-2006, 12:38 PM Just a thought, but a buddy of mine lost his engine mounts, one then the other coming home one day. As the engine and tranny moved he lost and gained the ability to shift into certain gears, reverse and first specifically. Your description sounds kinda like what we were experiencing at the time. It might be something to look into.
LT1CJ 10-10-2006, 12:45 PM Ive replaced several of those with t-5's. It will be cheaper than a nv3500. Even a ax-15 would be less expensive than a nv3500. Just remember your transfercase is a 21 spline and most any replacement tranny will be a 23 spline, so you will either need a 23 spline case or put a 23 spline shaft in your case. I doubt you will be able to salvage your pugeot. Once they go they usually wipe out the case and arent worth rebuilding anyhow. Your only hope would be finding a replacement pugeot that still works, which will be be extremely difficult. 87,88, and some 89 Wranglers had them as well as some early Cherokees. Good luck!
GroundClearance 10-10-2006, 10:10 PM I checked the mounts, I def have a blown tranny mount, which may have led to the problem, but its bigger now....
If its come to replacing it (I'm planning on getting a new Heep soon so i'd rather just fix it) then I'll have to look into the T-5
GroundClearance 10-11-2006, 06:46 PM Here's what I got:
