I'm looking at building a small camping trailer 5'x6'. I need some info on building a trailer axle thats gonna be leaf sprung. I'm looking to run maybe up to a 35" tire. The axle needs to be strong and built for weight. Coolers, Water, ect. Possible brakes and parking brake a definate. The parts need to to be readily available. I'm located in Hawaii so crap is expensive here. School me. I searched the net, no luck.

Last one I built I used some 14 bolt spindles and welded 3'' tubing between them. But everything I run is 8 lug. You could use some 44 spindles and go with either 5 or 6 lug that way. Have some plates drilled that the spindle will bolt to and have a center hole punched out for 3'' tube also.

I used Dana 30 spindles/hubs from a Jeep CJ and bolted them to a flange welded to a heavy walled piece of tubing. I use this set-up for my 5x8 utility trailer and you can buy all the springs/shackles/hangers at Tractor Supply or Northern Tool.

I'd just get a junk yard rear axle, out of what ever width you want, then toss on a simple hand brake on the tounge of the trailer
(this one http://www.galleria-e.com/cgi-bin/Colemans.storefront/en/product/217601)
Then hook the e-brake cables from the drums to the handle.

Thinking about that. You think a 10bolt would hold up good?
