What is the difference between older front 4wd axles and new ones? ABS aside, is there a width or gearing problem stopping me from using a 2005 f350 front vs a mid - late 80s early 90s axle? Sorry I don't seem to have a clue.

only thing i can think of is that the newer ford axles have a metric lug pattern

Late 80's era Ford D60 are desirable for the king pin/live spindle design. The real D60. The 78' & 79' (first F3 4X4's) D60's are extremely difficult to obtain. My D60 came from 87'SRW F34X4. Newer one ton axles can have ball joints & unit bearings. Not as rugged as king pin live/ spindle design.
