: value of a salvaged Samurai
Rokmycj 05-01-2002, 02:03 PM I recently purchased a 88 Samurai, and when I got the title in the mail it was labled salvage. Well, to make a long story short I don't think the Sammy is worth the $1600 price tag. What is a reasonable price for a salvaged Samurai with 86,000 miles on the odometer, which has possibly been rolled back, and is filthy dirty but has a straight body? The guy is trying to jerk me around on this, and is telling me he didn't know it was a salvage. What is a reasonable price. I will post pics later.

spencurai 05-01-2002, 02:05 PM 500$ max because you now have no resale value!!! take the guy to court!!
Rokmycj 05-01-2002, 02:08 PM yeah the guy said he could get $1600 for it even salvaged, but I didn't think so or he would have been straight up with me in the beginning. He is on this board to so I hope he takes care of his business.

0ILBURNER 05-01-2002, 02:11 PM $500 sounds about right.
If you are fortunate enough to have a lawyer in your family or on retainer, I would suggest having him write the person who sold you the vehicle. If you approach them, they will simply play dumb.
They will most likely offer you your money back & sell it again to another unsuspecting buyer. Your alternative is to keep it and deal with the title situation - not sure how difficult it is to clear that up in Cali. The vehicle was salvaged for a reason - have you determined what that is yet?
It was probably either totaled or submerged - this may have a bearing on whether you wanna keep it....
Live & learn, dude - the First question to ask a seller is to see the title.
mikrosilakhan 05-01-2002, 02:23 PM Either that or change the tag and title :)

When I originally purchased the vehicle I asked the guy if it was a salvage and he said "No". I pulled up the VIN info on it and it was labled a gross polluter. I am thinking that it was donated to a yard and he bought it from them and went through the motions of bringing the car to roadability. There are some options that I can take if something isn't done.
PIAA_Lites 05-01-2002, 09:40 PM If you have a digital camara, you can sell the parts on it at Ebay. Sell everything and take every thing off, like the mirrors and stuff.
I bought a salvaged vehicle in 1992. It was a 1988 Toyota with 34,000 miles. I bought if for $3500. The car served me well and I still have it now but do not drive it. I did not have any major problems with it. But if you want to buy car insurance for it, the insurance agent would need an opinion from a mechanic, to see if it is safe to drive. My vehicle passed but I needed some new tires and wiper blades for it. Those are common stuff. By the way, I got my money back from the Toyota because two at fault drivers hit my car and made dents to it. I did not suffer any injuries. I got about $2800 cash from the insurance people. :D
I know other salvaged vehicles are unsafe because something terrible happened to to it. I just got lucky when I bought the Toyota..
sorry dude, you got screwed. The vehicle is worth about 500 w/ the salvage title. Dont take any of his shit either, if it was a salvage title he shouls have known when he bought it, and not telling you when you asked is Fraud. Go bug the dude for an hour, and if he doesn't budge, threaten to take him to court on fraud.
BTW, PIAA_Lites, did you ever get that spring off?:D
tipover 05-02-2002, 05:52 PM Is it required for the seller to disclose if it is a salvaged title? I would never buy a car from a stranger with out seeing the title unless he is a good friend. I bought a sammy from a friend that lost the title and when I registered it after i spent a ton of money fixing it up, it had a lein. He is a CHP officer, And i trusted him. He did fix the problem (thank god), but i just about sh1t my pants when i found out. Buyer beware!
