: Ratings for 48RE
BIG PERM 10-10-2006, 01:28 PM 06 Dodge with 48RE....can't find the specs on the web, what is the max HP and torque rating? I've read a few threads via search....some say they have bombed with no issue, others say don't go past stock.....I'd just like to get the rating and some input...
Gonna be at 630HP and 660TQ to the wheels, this is on a gasser SRT.....when it's tuned for max, will only be running the truck with no load, but will run quarters from a standstill.....when towing, will load the regular settings to stock HP and TQ....
Any input appreciated....if I have to go aftermarket, would appreciate any advice around good tranny shops in the north Florida area....
Thanks,
Jason
Mechanos 10-10-2006, 01:49 PM My advice is, if you go aftermarket..... go DTT.
BigDan 10-10-2006, 07:50 PM They are good tranny when you have stock HP, but once you start to add HP your tranny's life get greatley shortened. Yeah some guy's say they have gotten away with a 60hp quad box but they drive very consertively but what's the fun in having extra hp if you cant use it. Most people find out the hard way and add a little hp here and there and 30K miles later their tranny is gone.
Do yourself a favor and leave it stock or be prepared for tranny upgrades. Nice thing about the 48re are that they can handle 410HP max if you go cheepo and upgrade with a nice torque converter and valve body.
I had a full blowen billet shafted DTT and it was a dream. It handled everything I dished out to it. I had 130hp box plus 200hp injectors and did 20psi 4x4 launches quite regulary and saw some drag time and have ZERO problems with it.
DTT all the way.
P.S I believe that DTT builds better tranny's thenATS and is was more affordable by $2K when I priced my tranny 2 years ago. They custom built it in house and tune for my needs and truck instead of a generic tranny showing up on a pallet.
I know this will probably piss off the ATS lovers out there, but this isnt a who's builds the best thread.
goodluck
bigdreamin 10-11-2006, 06:13 AM What does DTT offer for a warante? ATS has 150K on the TC and tranny IRC.
Mechanos 10-11-2006, 08:07 AM I do not know what DTT offers for a warranty... I suggest you contact them and ask them yourself. My warranty for any of their parts will differ considerably since I just bought the parts and did the rebuild myself.
I'd rather have a tail light warranty and never need it than have a 10 year warranty and have to exercise it regularly.
ScottFJ40 10-11-2006, 08:25 AM My advice is, if you go aftermarket..... go GOEREND.
I agree 100%
Mechanos 10-11-2006, 12:05 PM Yeah, go Goerend if you willing to settle for a first rate warranty on a second rate tranny. :flipoff2:

That is almost slander. :flipoff2:
DTT and ATS are assholes, with terrible customer service. Dave is the complete opposite, and my trans is AWESOME. I got 3rd place in the truck pulls a few weeks back and my temps never got over 170°

I'd have to define my service from DTT as exceptional. I was given Bill's personal cell phone number so I could call him with any questions since the majority of my rebuild time was over the weekend and the shop was closed. Once I had it back in the truck, I had a couple of issues with some of the sensors... Bill walked me through the diagnosis, again from his personal cell phone on a Sunday, and I had the faulty sensors replaced in no time. During the rebuild, I was also give a LOT of personal insight and "tricks of the trade" that he's learned through his years of experience. I have also talked to Dave on the phone and even bought some stuff from him in the past and he also a stand up guy, but when it comes right down to it, I chose Bill's knowledge base over Dave's for my trans. I'd have no fear whatsoever dumping 600hp and 1200ft-lbs through my DTT trans.
BIG PERM 10-11-2006, 01:57 PM Guys, thanks for all the input.....knowning me, I probably need to get something rediculous.....although I plan to start out with only 625RWHP, some guys are running twins and getting over 1000RWHP, and that just sounds like something I would do :D
I called Suncoast, since they are about 4 hours away, and they have a billet tranny built just for the SRT-10......it's expensive, but it sounds like what I need......
What is DTT??? Would like to call them and plan to check with Goerend...
Thanks for all the help.....will post pics when all is said and done.... :smokin:
DURAtotheMAX 10-11-2006, 02:11 PM DTT = diesel transmission technology. Up in Canada IIRC, run by bill kondolay. They make awesome stuff for the dodge's. Never dealt with them personally so I cant comment on that.
"only" 625rwhp on fuel is pretty ambitious, im just a little skeptical because you say it like everyone and their brother has a truck that puts over 600hp to the ground..... plan on a huge single or twins, fire ringed head, injectors, CP3 mods, and a big tune. Not saying all of those aforementioned things are necessary, because there are maybe guys making that on all stock parts, but in general, plan on some "big" mods to make that hp. Madsen has the highest hp on fuel IIRC, 10xxrear wheel hp or so.

You sure do post up alot about stuff you have no experience with.

You're wrong again...........
There are at least 10+ guys over at DTR with 600-650HP 04.5+ CTD's with very little mods. They do it with NO TWINS, NO DRUGS, STOCK INJECTORS, and STOCK CP3
The recipe for that isnt what you think. The new 600 engines respond very well to programming.
If you not so sure about what your willing to type then just save it and wait for someone who actually knowes CTD's step in and you can save it for d-max info.
As far as the orignal poster goes there IS NOT any 3rd gen's out there that have 1,000HP. The most street driven truck is in the 800's. The most HP out of a daily driver is about 650HP and then turned down to 450 for daily driving.
It sound like you need lot and lots more info before you do anything. Come on you want to build a 1,000HP CTD and dont even know who DTT and your thinking of installing a SRT-10 tranny?????
Do your self a huge favor and go to a CTD spefic forum and learn over there instead of Pirate4x4 tow rig section looking for info. Oh and once you get there use the SEARCH feature and you will get alot better info since everything has already been disscused.
Goodluck
BIG PERM 10-11-2006, 02:51 PM I know of two trucks over 1000RWHP on twins, but they are built to the max....remember, per the original post, it's a SRT-10 gasser with the Viper V-10, which can put out 650 fairly easily.....but if I had a diesel with over 1000HP, I'd love to drop it in there :flipoff2:
I have posted on a number of forums in order to get as many informed opinions as possible, and I've gotten a lot of good feedback from the pirate crowd around my many different vehicles......thanks again for the responses....

They know everything there is to know about V10s on a CTD forum ? Cool. I'll need to check that out, maybe they can help me out with my BBC too. :D
BigDan 10-11-2006, 04:02 PM Oops I thought this was aboust diesels.
That's alot of HP even for a Viper V-10. I remember reading an article about Hennesy I think putting together a 800HP twin Turbo Quad cab auto SRT-10 truck. He had the tranny done to handle all the HP. The thing made so much HP it was almost impossable to get it to hook up and could only get into the low 13's I believe. They did say the thing flat out haules ass on the freeway or whenever traction wasnt an issue.
If I was going to go through all the trouble of a 1000HP I'd look into putting everything on a 1/2 ton 4x4 if it could hold all the HP. If you hept it in a straight line I dont see why the front end would fail. Or just do a SAS.
Sorry again
