After getting a job working in a shop, I quickly got fed up with my homeowner grade shop set up, and decided to invest some money in upgrading some of my own things.
Ingersoll-Rand 5HP 60 gallon compressor, model # SS5L5 18.1 CFM @ 90psi

cheapo HF 40" brake, claims it can handle 16 guage though

and the crowning achievement, a Miller Cutmate 375 Xtreme plasma cutter

I read all the threads on the cheapo plasma cutters and decided that I didn't want to mess with adjusting the equipment, or worrying about whether i was getting a good unit or not. I chose the Xtreme model over just the regular 375 because of its versatility, now i can easily bring it to a friends shop or to work, and it will stay clean and protected in the case when im not using it.
thoughts?

Sounds like something I would do. Except I got the HH140 (and love it!). BTW, Stihl tools are :smokin:

I only need it for light welding...at the moment. I only paid 240 for the welder itself. This way, when I can upgrade to a bigger(210-250 amp unit) welder, I don't regret paying so much just to start with. Besides, the mig kit is only an extra hundred which I can add on later when I want or need to.
I am glad my Stihl came in over night(picked it up last Tuesday AM).....because when I got a call from them Friday(found the voice mail on Monday), it was too late to try and get over there, because the roads to the shop are under water in some spots.

I wouldnt say that John is paying me too much... trust me I still plan on eating macaroni and cheese for the next few months to pay this stuff off! I was going back and forth between the 5hp or the 3hp compressor, but because they are essentially the same size physically and there is a good sized investment one way or another, I decided it was worth it to spend the extra $280ish and know that I would be happy. The same thought process went into the plasma cutter.
Now I just need to wait for the stuff to arrive, then I need to find the time to go home to install it all and use it! This stuff is all going into my "shop" aka my parents garage, about an hour away. They let me use the space and I let my dad use my tools when I'm not around :D

I have the 18" bender from HF and added some angle iron braces to it and can bend 12ga now, for $18 great purcahse. I'll be making my own 40" next now that Ihave some more ideas from this 18".
I always heard the IR compressers were no better than the husky or craftsman of the same size as those IR ones are not really 'industrial'... no proof just what I heard.

dad has a similar compressor but with the 80 gallon tank and the only problem i found is it doesn't quit:laughing: with his old one you'd have to let the compressor catch up so you'd have to take a break which can be nice when sandblasting in the middle of summer outside:D
