I'm just curious since I'm toying with the idea on my shortbed reg cab. It would be nice to carry more people. They're about the same length right? Are they totally different frames?

no...not without custom mounts...the frames are different on the passenger compartment..

How about the shape and dimensions? Mounts are not a huge deal.

I'm pretty sure the explorer frame is stronger and I know the mounts are different.

I saw one that was put on an F250 frame. Looked pretty good. I'm not sure if I would even go through with it. It's just a wild idea.

Ranger frames sweep upward much higher behind the cab than a sploder frame. You'd have your work cut out by modifying the rear floorpans (unless you hack together some custom bootyfabulous bodylift for it).

What he said ^^^

I have both sitting here in my driveway, and the Ranger sweeps up much higher than the 'Sploder. I'd LOVE the Ranger frame under the 'Sploder body, as it is constantly hanging up on the spring hangers with the stock frame.

As an alternative to the Ranger frame -- for far less work, time, and money, I'd try doing a spring-over, then pocketing the front of the leaf springs into the frame. That would hold ride height close to the same, but eliminate some of the hanging junk that gets in the way. Likely the best of both worlds, IMO.

Conversely, you could stick the Explorer body over the Ranger rails -- you'd just have to cut out the floorboards where the frame rails pass through from the end of the front seat pan back to the bumper and make some new mounts. It would be about the same job as channeling an old hot rod.
