: tips on installing gauges in 06 cummins
rokdog03 10-11-2006, 08:34 PM I bought a new auto meter triple a pillar gauge mount with auto meter 0-60 ultra light boost gauge,140-280 trans temp, and ultra light 0-1600 pyro. for those who have done this do you have any suggestions or comments on doing this.i want the wiring and hook up to be super clean. and suggestions on where to tap the wires into would be greatly appreciated. how hard is it to pull the exhaust manifold off to drill and tap for the pyro? is it worth it or should i just do it with the engine running like everyone else does?
crashnzuk 10-11-2006, 08:55 PM I can't speak for the in-cab portion, but I hooked up the engine comp stuff on my friends 06. I pulled the intake horn and drilled/tapped a hole on the back side for the boost line. I drilled and tapped a hole in the exh manifold with the engine running. I removed the inner fender on the right side and drilled into the rear port on the downward part of the manifold just above the turbo flange. Piece of cake. 17K miles on it so far and all is good.

wildmanben 10-12-2006, 07:47 AM you dont need to take the exhaust manifold off. Just drill it on the truck, but right before you break through, dab grease on the drillbit and on the manifold to catch the shavings, then stick a pencil magnet in the hole to catch the runaways. Worked great on many occasions here.
welndmn 10-12-2006, 09:00 AM While it's not the same, Check out the instructions for the Quadzilla Commander
http://www.quadzillapower.com/downloads/commander_main2.pdf
It tells you good places to drill and tap for stuff.
The only thing I would add is get a transmission line from MassDiesel or flare your current one so you can put your tranny temp on the hot line out.
rokdog03 10-12-2006, 09:06 AM i had planned on just putting the trans temp sending unit in my mag hytec trans pan, i think there is already a threaded hole for it

Not to hyhack the tread, does that line from Mass Deisel replace the whole line? If so where do I find that? I have one sensor in my pan but I want to know whats coming out of the torque conveter. thanks fo the help.
welndmn 10-12-2006, 03:32 PM Yup, its the whole line.
Its bascily they flared it, and put an AN fitting on it.

or you can just do it with the engine running, that way it will blow the chips right out. Do this on a COLD engine that is only idleing!!! also, wear safety glasses cause it will blow the chips out pretty hard.
rokdog03 10-12-2006, 10:43 PM where should i drill for the pyro and boost sending unit. the auto meter installation instructions are universal. i know to put the pyro pre turbo but where? between cylinder #2 and cylinder #3 or just right before the turbo mount. and what about the wiring where to tap wire feeds and what not. i want a super clean install. anybody got any pics of their install

Did you happen to look at the link I posted?
rokdog03 10-13-2006, 10:24 AM yeah thats why i was asking cause the instructions on the link say to put in between cyliner 2 and three and auto meters instructions say for a turbo diesel to install the pyro right before the turbo. also called all about diesels cause they make wiring harnesses all cut to length and loomed but i have to ship them my a pilar and gauges for them to do mine,l was kinda hoping to get them in this weekend
flimmy 10-13-2006, 02:20 PM go to http://www.piersdiesel.com/DodgeUSPrice.htm and get a Turbo Boost Fitting. It replaces one of the intake bolts and allows you to hook up the boost gage w/o drilling any holes. It makes hooking up the boost gage very simple.
