so got an 02 duramax with a clicking noise coming from the driver front wheel location. The noise is proportional to speed, not rpm's. But it is not often enough to be somehting like driveshaft axles etc..... At about 30 mph it clicks about once every 3-4 seconds and aroudn 50 it clicks about once a second. Soemtimes after a light the noise will be gone then all of a sudden come back, other times it doesn't go away.

All started today on my drive back from southlake. Looked under the truck and didn't see anyhting obvious.

any ideas?

Does it come and go with applying the brakes?

Is it 4WD? Could be the CV joint.

My Money is on the Hub Assembly bearing. I had the same noise and that was the problem. It is pretty common. BTY, I have a 2003 1500 4X4 EC SB with the 5.3 Vortec.

How many miles does it have? Usually a wheelbearing will quiet when you turn one direction or the other so try turning or listening when you corner. CV could click but it depends on how worn it is and usuall that wont click when you go straight ahead. The hollifect sensor for the abs could have something stuck to it and rub on the reluctor ring? just some ideas is it a mettallic sounding click?

bingo!! the chevy trucks use this unit bearing & it's notorious for failing when overstressed by larger tires...

I'll have to give that idea a third nod. I've got an '01 2500hd w/ 8.1 and just replaced the pass. side wheel bearing hub. Things are freaking expensive too. Mine was making a squeaking sound when I turned one direction and moved forward. Lift that side of the truck up and see if you can "jiggle" the wheel around... like it has slop in it. Check it with the wheel off too (make sure to support the truck real good with jack stand and such). If the hub moves around and the ball joints stay still... that's what it is. It's real easy to replace it you have the tools, only takes 1-2 hrs.

Doesn't sound like the CV shaft to me. If it were the CV, it would click very consistently only when you turned pretty tightly.

For future reference... it's a "Hall Effects" sensor, not hollifects (not being a smarta$$, just a correction)
