I can not figure out what is wrong with my t case and or front axle... It is a 1997 2500 with a 360.... when i shift it into 4 high or 4 low it either acts like nuetral or goes for a few feet then gives me a loud bang and pops out of 4wd... and if i hold it down into 4 low i get a buch of clunks from what sounds like the front axle... i am thinkin maybe it isn't enganging all the way.. o and it does have a 3 inch body lift so maybe the linkage?? not sure any help would be great... thanks

take the vacume lines off of thw cad and see if it does the same thing. if it does then it is the case.

well, if you didsconected the vacume lines, disabling the cad, and while in 4 hi or low it does not make the noise i would say it is in the front end. if the x case was bad then it would continue to make the racket. if the pinion teeth were damaged it would make the same racket even if the cad were disengaged. does it only do it at higher speeds as in above 5 or 10 mph? if it does it at less then 5 try and pinpoint where it is coming from from outside the truck... good luck

well with them on and in 4 wheel it just doesn't want to go.... needs a lot of gas to get goin and after about 5 mph it makes a bad clunkin noise... Maybe a shaft?

I would pull the axle shafts and see what they look like. I think it has to be your front axle. Can you put the tcase in neutral and spin the front d-shaft? See how hard it is to turn it by hand. Make sure the auto hubs have unlocked all the way first. I would do that and see what happens. If you cannot free spin the front d-shaft with the tcase in neutral and the auto hubs unlocked then you have a jacked up carrier or shafts thats causing the front axle to bind. Just my $.02.

Make sure the auto hubs have unlocked all the way first.

that truck does not have hubs..all it has is the CAD...
the first thing you need to check is to see that you are getting full engagement with the shifter and it is not hitting the floor.. is the 3 inch body lift the only mod you have done to the truck??

Would it be possible for it to be putting one axle in low and one in high? Perhaps hook it up like it should be and put it on some jack stands so the wheels can spin freely. Then put it in 4wd and see if one set spins faster than the other???
