Yes, I did a search...no info that was enough for what I want.

I got a free D30 from a wrecked Jeep and was going to pull the tubes from the pig for practice before ruining "real" axles. Also going to pull the ends off for the same reason...yes, I have a lot of spare time:rolleyes:

I tried burning the plug welds out with a torch but it seemed like I was gakking the pig all up...do I have to hot of a flame going? It seemed like any less and I was not cutting good. Any hints for this typw of work?

It's a 5/8 bit to drill 'em out if I give up on the torch right? Any hints there other then be prepared to take a while and keep the bit lubed?

The ends seem simple enough but is there a trick anyone would like to share....seems to me the secret is cutting inside of the weld right?

TIA

Are you trying to save the tubes, and the pig? If so you are attempting the impossible(well it's possible, but worth the money for new steel tubes).

A buddy of mine suggested this method: Use an arc welder to burn a hole through the weld, then use a torch to burn the weld out(you will ruin a few tips), then clean the weld with a burr. I used this method on my 60, saved the housing destroyed the tubes ( I was retubing it any way). I was thinking about using a hole saw without the pilot drill bit, and just drill (cut) around the weld all the way through the housing and tube, then press out.

I practiced with a 44 and it came apart a lot easier than the 60 did.

Good luck
