i hace accumulated most of the parts i need to do a full hydraulic steering conversion on my jeep. i have a used splined shaft that goes with the orbital valve and i was wondering what to use on the end of it to connect the steering shaft from the jeep. the shaft i have for the orbital valve is about 6 to 8" long, it is incased in the housing that bolts to the o-valve, and is splined on both ends. i need something that splines onto the end that i can either hook to the jeep steering shaft or something that will spline onto it that i can fab off of. any ideas ?
i am in the same boat. i will probally just weld something on.

that is what i was thinking but i would really like to have something that splines on it so i can do it "right". i thought i'd see what others were doing before i fired up the welder.

What you are looking for is a steering column with a very short length. I have a Char-Lynn valvle (nearly identical to a DanFoss) and after researching Eaton Hydraulics website and talking with them over the phone, I found what I was looking for. They make various different columns that bolt to the four tapped holes on the surface of the valve. There's a 12 spline shaft that mates with the orbital valve splined input. The length varies. The column that I ordered is only 2-1/2 inches long. The upper end of the column I ordered is a .6 inch diameter 36 tooth shaft with a flat spot which I'm hoping will mate with the coupler that used to attach to my gear box. With the orbital valve and the column, I'll still be shorter than my gear box. Then I'll just fab up a bracket and bolt it up to where my gear box was. The column is supposed to arrive in the next day or so.

The later is the pdf file with the 114 page Eaton catalog. I don't know if it will work or not. If it doesn't get you there, go to the web site and open the catalog pdf. The column info is on pages 90 to 100.
I ordered from Motion Industries since Eaton doesn't sell to the public. Motion Industries is all over the place. There's like 10 in every state. The thing Motion doesn't know how to do is look up columns and work with you to find the right part number. I talked with the tech guys at Eaton for a while until I finally came up with the part no. 204-1052-003. This is a 2-1/2 tall steering column with the above mentioned features. They also gave me 204-1235-006 which is supposed to be one that is a little longer like 5 inches or something.

i am thinking i may just get a borgeson or flaming river shaft and do just that. take the end yoke off an dweld it to the shaft.
