So has anyone used a press like this?

http://www.otctools.com/products/detail.php?id=1158

Its very nice, and it has a winch on the side with a pulley system to raise and lower the bed. The winch is like a boat trailer one except that it doesn't have a click mechanism, its more like a clutch system and you can smoothly move it either way, to raise or lower. The winch and cable doesn't hold the load, you install the big pins and then lower it on them

Well i want to add that winch and pulley system my northern tool press (20ton). Where can i get a winch like that?

Also, can i drill and tap a place on the bottle jack to install a pressure guage to see how much force i'm excerting?

A, find a boat winch and remove the ratchet...very simple and likely free. Or B...buy a worm drive winch which is more expensive but a better option.
If you wanted to be really cheap you could use a ratchet strap or arm power :flipoff2:
As to the gauge, some (few) jacks have a base that's tapped for either converting to air over hydro/remote pump/or adding a gauge. You can either A. convert to a porta-power type jack like that press is using and add a gauge, or B spend the money for a bottlejack with a pressure port. $$ as well.

With the HF press you'll be able to tell when you're nearing 20tons by the fact that the press is now a parallelogram rather than a rectangle. :flipoff2:

Thats the press we have at the Toyota dealership where I work. I've yet to find something it won't squeeze together or apart.

You'd be surprised how many idiots think that cable will hold what they're pressing....
