I'm up in the air about this. I am going to be going through my 8.8" rear axle in my 94 F-150. I am doing a C-Clip eliminator, stronger shafts, all the bearings and seals, 4.56 gears, etc. Basically building it to the max. It is going to be a DD, therefor I am unsure if I should save some money by welding the spiders, or do an EZ locker style. The Lock Rite and EZ locker are the same price on JBG. I'm leaning towards the Lock Rite, but would really like everyone's opinions. I've got everything figured out for the solid front D44, just not the Diff for the 8.8". Thanks.

I'm running Aussie Lockers front and rear (also a DD) and I've been very happy with them.

I used to have an 8.8 with an ezlocker. It's a bitch if you want to gas it in a turn. I love having a selectable. So much better on the street. If you save up you'll never go back.

Buy an arb.... the money you save in tire wear will eventually pay for the locker

what Cclip eliminators are you buying? most of them wont hold up to the forces put on the axle wheeling, they are made for street only.

I had two EZ's in the front of my rig that I grenaded pretty good.. Went to a lockright & never looked back. Also powertrax's are the shit for on road driving. Theyre much more quiet & predictable, but almost as much as a detroit.

just buy a 10.25 or D60/70 and install a detroit. The 8.8 is too weak to bother upgrading if you want to run tires bigger than 35"

Bullshit
If you really are building it to the max, get an ARB. If your not, ditch the c-clip elim and get an aussie or a spool.

Since this is going to be a daily driver I wouldn't even consider welding the spiders or a spool even though that's the cheapest way to go. Next best thing would be a lunchbox locker if you're trying to stay on the cheap plus you wont chirp tires nearly as much around corners as being welded up or spooled. I run a Detroit in my 8.8 and couldn't be happier with it plus it's stronger than the stock diff case a lunchbox locker goes into...something else to consider.

do not put a insertable in a 8.8, the carrier/cross pin is a MAJOR weak link in there.
either weld it, or put a detroit in it. Or better yet, through the 8.8 away and put in a 9" with a spool or detroit.
I swapped my 8.8 for a 9" with a spool 7 years ago in my truck( DD for 5 of them) and never looked back.. In that time period I watched 8 of my close friends gernade 8.8's with stock to 33" tires, in DD's..
