I've heard of people bolting 4"x4" angle iron to their rocker panels for protection. Would this hold up to trail use? Would it support the weight of the vehicle?

YES they will, I run 4x4x1/4 on my heep and have landed from 2 feet up on them broke the rock and scratched the rocker.

I have also put the jeep on its side with nothing but the rocker holding it up

AussieTJ - Yes! Now, that's what I'm talkin' about! If you don't mind me stealing your idea, I'm gonna go with that same design. I worked for 2 years in a machine shop during high school (I'm only a sophomore in college), so I can get stuff like that fabricated for very cheap. Nice write-up also.

HEAVY duty, and work like a charm.
