When I was searching for home made presses there weren't many so I've decided to add my mini press to the lot. aprox 40" tall and 12" inside width. Perfect for pressing off gears for my transmission rebuild.

Build cost:
70$ 1/4"x 4" channel (15 feet)
25$ springs
35$ 20 ton jack on sale
5$ hooks
----------
Total 135$

This is my home made gear puller. Since my cheapo gear puller bent to hell on the first gear I tried to pull and the next puller was 1200$ I decided to make my own. Works very well even with tight gears!

I used grade 12, 1/2" fine thread rods and nuts. I used 3/8 plates then I welded 2 nuts into the sandwich. I had a machine shop drill 1/2" holes into the bearing spliter.

Build cost:
36$ 2x36" grade 12 rod
20$ grade 12 nuts and rod couplings
20$ machine shop
0$ 3/8 plates (spare metal)
0$ bearing spliter with cheapo gear kit
-------------
Total 76$

I asked for grade 8 at the store and received grade 12. I didn't complain...

Lol...I thought the same thing.

I like the gear puller...is it necessary for you to have had the splitter drilled, or could you not have welded the allthread to it?

(And these prices were throwing me off a bit...I assume these are cana dien dollars?

The splitter had originally 3/8 threaded holes and the legs in the original set also bent a few times when I pulled a few gears. The threaded part of the rod (see picture) were about to break

Yep these are Canadian prices....Nothing is cheap here
