I am looking to build a shop/apartment here in Georgia. Does anyone know about zoning or regulations about steel buildings in this area? What I would like to do is build about a 3000-4000 sq foot building with about 1000 sq feet of living space. Anybody have and companies they would recommend for the building and the construction? Has anyone done what I am talking about? If so what were your experiences or recommendations? So far I've seen building of this size in the 20,000 range with out accessories. What did you or should I expect to spend?
Thanks,
Bobby

The guy building my house is building a garage apartment for himself. Just a place to store a car or two and his boat with about 1000 square feet above for living space. What part of Ga are ya located in?

Your county website should have the requirements online at the building codes or planning and zoning page.
In my county here in TN, the only inspection done for a pole barn is to inspect the setback lines. Of course, if you run electricity to the building, that will need to be inspected.
Your bank will want to see the building plans as will the code department.

I just went to the bank and got a loan to build mt shop. I will be a 40x80 with 20x40 apartment on one end. It will have 3 bay doors. 2 will be 10x10 and one will be 10x12. I have got to go sign the papers this week and I am stoked. I have been wanting a big shop for a while!!!
My banker has been great with gathering all the info like codes and that kind of thing!!!

No idea on the specifics in your area, but there are ALOT of shops with appartments above around here in oregon. It just rains ALL THE TIME so its the best of both worlds.
One thing to make sure you do is get a good positive pressure heating/ a/c system. When I was going to school at Wyotech, the term before us(or mabye a little longer) 2 Tech students died(or mabye one and the other hospitalized) from the third roomate warming their car up in the garage with the garage door open to lt the exhaust out. Keep in mind its like -10 degrees for a few months a year there. I guess the land lord didnt do anything to code and it killed one kid. Just my thoughts.
