: Which d44 should i get??
joe53015 10-16-2006, 07:10 AM I recently ran into a problem, my 98 S-10 has a front axle from an early bronco.
Im currently in the process of doing a cut and turn of the outer c's to get better pinion angle and change from leaf sprung to coilovers :shaking:
The problem I ran into, the EB 44 has smaller diameter axle tubes than average d44's. :mad3:
So heres what Im looking for full size d44 front axle with a drivers side drop that
I can cut the axle tubes to the same legnth as my current axle tubes and install the new outer c's / 3 link brackets.
rcurrier44 10-16-2006, 07:26 AM Ford uses a drivers side drop solid axle.....Why can't you just truss your current axle???
MudOnTheTireS10 10-16-2006, 07:33 AM Fullsize F150/Bronco? That would have been the first thing to look for to begin with, IMO.
7thgear 10-16-2006, 07:34 AM I am running a 78 ford dana 44. The front pinion angle is bad, but not that bad. I can drive it in 4wd up to about 30 mph without vibrations. Offroading is slow, so it isn't a problem. Just wait and see if you start having driveshaft/ujoint issues before you cut and turn.
joe53015 10-16-2006, 10:05 AM I already have the outer c's cut off. I purchased control arm mounts which are cut for 3" axle tubes, I already have outer c's machined for 3" diameter tube.
I was just wondering what application to look for but with some research I've found a 77 full width 44 should get me taken care of.
As for why I purchased Early bronco axles was because of the width. While reading the post for your s-10 mudonthetires it seems you also asked about the same question that I've just done. Thank you because I figured out what I need to purchase
"Just wait and see if you start having driveshaft/ujoint issues before you cut and turn" I tried and the drive shaft wouldnt even install without binding.
b454rat 10-16-2006, 02:40 PM Get a Waggy Dana 44 out of mid 80s Grand Cherokees. They are about the same width as EBs and stock IFS S-10s. If I do the SAS to my S-10, these will be the axles I'm using.

If you plan to go high enough though, the LP sucks.
b454rat 10-16-2006, 05:22 PM The EB is a low pinion....

 Most D44s have 2-3/4" tubes
I would go with an intact HP44. The extra width isn't as big a deal as you might think.
joe53015 10-17-2006, 06:22 AM [QUOTE=u2slow] Most D44s have 2-3/4" tubes
If most d44's come with 2 3/4" tubes why does blue torch sell brackets that are made for a 3" tube, why did i get the tubes removed from some used outer c's and those are 3". Why when i mounted my leaf spring perches on my last suspension set-up they were for 3". Everything I have ever purchased that was for a d44 always was for 3" tubes. :flipoff2:
MudOnTheTireS10 10-17-2006, 08:06 AM Should be 3" tube for D44s. 10 bolts and 9" are the same. 14 bolts are 3 1/4".
Beater_K20 10-17-2006, 05:40 PM 3 3/8" on the 14...
BlaZeR2_matt 10-24-2006, 10:35 PM My waggy axle is 3". My F100 and F150 tubes were both 2.75" All 44's

X2
especially in the front.
