Alright, here is the deal. I sold my Dad my old 47 2A, and he has had it sitting in the garage for a couple years. Last I checked it ran and drove pretty good..all it really needs is new springs, but he also wants to toss in a clutch. I think it needs a upgrade on the brakes. Swing away pedals, and at least front disks, maybe rear, also. What else would you guys suggest to upgrade..All my parents are gonna do is drive logging roads up north, so it doesn't need to be anymore extreme, just more reliable.

Figure springs=$300
Clutch=$???
Disks=$???? (Chuck you know this one?)

what else?

Oh I am gonna bend up a real cage before it hits the trail again.

here it is.

If all he's gonna do is logging roads, I'd say you have it covered. Nice picture, BTW :)

Disc swap is about $130 per axle, details are on my site at www.oldjeep.com . Don't bother with the swinging pedals, you can use a better MC in the stock location. make sure you check the steering box for play and the bellcrank pin for wear. You can get most of the parts you need at 4wd center in st. louis park, or www.kaiserwillys.com is another good place.

Other than that, they are perfect the way they are as long as you keep the tire size down to near stock.

I don't think he wants to run any bigger than stock tires, but he loves the stock skinny Willys rims. Any good tire choices for that? All it is running right now are some bias plys from Fleet Farm, that he thinks are too big.

I can't wait to get the stocker going again:D

He could get some BFG 33x9.5" Mud Terrains, but they might be too tall for him, and then you'd probably have to lift it....

The stock size is about 29". You can get the old style tires from www.cokertire.com . Otherwise, something like a 30x10.5 should fit decently.

Check out these Avon radials that are for the Land Rovers originally. Skinny and good tread for a Flatty. The Rangemaster are a little taller and wider, at 7.50x16, but I have seen this size on a 2A stock rim, fits well. The other will be about like the stock 2A, and they are both 6.00x16. Here are the webpages:
Rangemaster, http://www.avontyres.com/4x4.asp?id=151
Rangemaster 205, http://www.avontyres.com/4x4.asp?id=181
Have you considered the skinny Buckshots or the TSLs, around 32x9x50.

I talked to my Dad, and told him he is either gonna have to ditch the stock rims, or not do a disk swap. SO it looks like he is gonna put some 15x8's, which should really open up the tire selection. Gotta have skinny tires on a Willys, though:D

15x6 or 15x7 would be better. I had 33x9.5's on 15x8's and it sucked - constantly blowing beads. Skinny tires need skinny rims. And not all rims fit over the brake conversion on my page. If you have access to what you want to use, try throwing one on my jeep first to make sure they clear the calipers.

Excellent. I'll figure out a wheel tire combo someday. The nice thing is with these scrawny tires and rims, is that they are so cheap, after you get used to prices for 38's:eek:
