right

either. depends on what it was for. edit: All I've seen were Detroit rear and Powerlock fronts

all SOA, just like all modern GM trucks I'm aware of.

th400 is right. tcase could be either. Mostly 208's but some 205s. edit: M1028A1 and M1031 had 205's.
thanx
you're welcome. ;)
Lloyd 05-02-2002, 12:39 PM Actually the M1009's are Blazers - 10-bolts front and rear, 6.2 diesel, th400 and np208s. But I assume you know that and were asking about the 1-1/4 ton trucks.
mytzlflick 05-02-2002, 01:11 PM carefull there, I dunno about the us army but in canada a 5/4 ton truck is a gas burner and is only a 3/4 ton drivetrain. the cucv is a deisel and is a true one ton setup
Lloyd 05-02-2002, 01:27 PM All these are commonly called CUCV's:
M1008: Tactical Cargo
M1008A1: Tactical Cargo
M1009: Tactical Utility
M1010: Tactical Ambulance
M1028: Tactical Shelter Carrier
M1028A1: Tactical Shelter Carrier w/ PTO
M1031: Tactical Chassis

BadDog 05-02-2002, 05:49 PM Hmm, this "non standard carriers" is news to me. Are you guys sure about that? I haven't tried to buy anything for it so I don't know for sure, but I thought the D60 and C14 had standard stuff inside...
WillyPete 05-02-2002, 07:30 PM just gettin one for a parts truck... probly use only the xcase and axles and sell the rest to a scrapyard (or any pirate members ;))
sorry, i meant the 5/4 ton trucks ala K series fullsize p/u
the 4.56 carrier in the CUCV 14 bolt is a nonstandard carrier in that you can only fit the 4.56 gears on it (i think)
a standard 14b carrier can't fit gears deeper than 4.10 unless you get thin gears and a spacer (again, i think)
WillyPete 05-02-2002, 07:34 PM wow, damn lloyd, that's a nice reference list; thanks
too bad they don't make the m715 any more...
BadDog 05-02-2002, 07:35 PM The information I have (beats the hell out of me where I got it, but this is what is in my head) is that the C14FF can go to 5.13. Carrier break is at 4.56 so...
3.?? - 4.10 are on one carrier
4.56, 4.88, 5.13 are on the other.
I do remember calling Randy's and they only sell the "deep" gears as "thick gears" for the 4.10 carrier. Called Drivetrain Direct and they had the deeper gears in standard cut, but only in OEM. No Richmond, Supperior, etc.
So, this "special" carrier (if it is odd ball) is only for the C14FF? Is the D60 a "standard" 4.56+ carrier???

hmmm i think you may be right about the carrier break... but i think the CUCV 14 bolts used some funky carrier that can only use 4.56 gears.
about the 4.56+ on standard gears... i dunno what i was thinkin; yeah, it's thick gears, not thin gears with a spacer :banging head against desk:
the D60 is a standard carrier

I think it's a standard high-ratio carrier, but fitted with the Detroit at the factory. Of course that combination gets it a special build code. FWIW the 4.56 was the steepest factory gearset I've ever seen in one; and the only 4.56-equipped axles that I know of that came from the factory with the Detroit were in CUCVs. IMO this is where the "special" carrier bit comes from. Don't know of anything else unique about 'em. Those D60s came with a plain ole Powerlock.
Lord Baskerville 05-04-2002, 08:15 AM OK, I have a 77 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4 in the back yard.
318, 727, etc....
Any special lockers etc in the axels that anyone knows of?
This has the 24V gen with com. dist box in the bed.
It is a friends and is for sale:D

BadDog 05-04-2002, 05:29 PM It's not even a special carrier with the Detroit, just an insert in the standard open carrier as far as I know. It just surprised me seeing this post about a "special" carrier after having Randy's tell me they don't have "standard" gears for the carrier I have. Had me worried for a bit there. Good to hear that it's not really special. I hate odd-ball stuff you can't use standard/common parts for.
BTW, only a few got Power-Loks, most were open like mine.
72zebra 05-04-2002, 08:26 PM Im in the Army (SFC, 14 yr.s time in service) and Ive never seen anything but gov-locs in the rear and open fronts. But hey, Ive only been in 14yrs so I could be wrong:D
