Can't seem to find much information on making a flat skid plate for CJ's (lots for TJ's). Anyone done this?

I am looking at it for my CJ with the D20 (motor lift requred? Body lift? How much, etc...) and a friend is looking with a D300 (how much clock? etc..)

I know someone out there must have fab'd a flat skid for a CJ, post some pics please.

Thanks :D

Sure, lots of people have. I plan to as soon as I get to installing a T18. Keep in mind that you are raising the tranny mount about 3". You may have to do some triming to the tub and also to get a flat skid plate your gonna have to clock the dana 300. I dont' know about your dana 20 because I dont' have one, but take a look at it. You might have to make a drop in your skid for the front output, because I haven't heard of people clocking a 20.Hope that help some:smokin:

Hey Archie -

I've done it. Flat 1/4 Plate, 1/4 2.5x2.5 angle and some 1x2 cut in half to make the ribs. I have a 1" body lift and clocked the D300.

Nice rkcrawl! That is what I'm looking for!

Anyone ever clocked a D20? Does it really need it? (its fairly flat compared to a unclocked D300) From looking at my stock setup, I'd need to raise the drivetrane at least 2" unless someone has a trick for me...

Any more pics from anyone?

You can't clock a Dana 20. The bolt pattern doesn't allow it. Dana 300's have a round bolting flange so you can turn it and it will still bolt up. Dana 20's have the Texas pattern so if you turn it the bolt holes won't line up and neither would the gasket.

It may not be flush with the frame but it's flat. NV4500 and clocked Dana 300. No body lift, just a hole in the floor.

If you want a true flat skid plate these guys make the shit. The skid plates have no holes and no bolts exposed. Pretty cool. I just ordered mine. I'm not sure if they have CJ stuff though, but I know that they do some custom work. Their site is www.t-rox.com
