: 300 I6
NetBSD 10-18-2006, 02:01 PM how much do these weight? i just took one to the steel yard and they said it was only 470# this had the clutch and bell still on it, nothing off
EDIT: dunno if it matters but it was outof a 82 f250 4x2
Gummi Bear 10-18-2006, 02:43 PM Do a search on CB.com, there was a fella that posted the weight of the 300, and I was surprised to learn that it weighs significantly less than the 302. I always thought it was heavier. (I'm not in the mood to search for you :flipoff2: )
In the fordsix.com forum someone posted 490# including manifolds etc. I think that's ready to run weight. Are you finally coming around? Should have put that in the truck :). Just finishined putting mine together.. should be good for 220hp at 4000rpm or so.
wanderer-RRORC 10-18-2006, 06:49 PM 500* sounds about right..theyre heavy...
adrianspeeder 10-18-2006, 07:29 PM 'bout right dry.
NetBSD 10-18-2006, 08:18 PM this one was ready to run, all you had to do was give it some fuel but i had no use for it and nobody wanted to fork over $50 for it so i took it to the steel yard

bmc69 10-19-2006, 05:25 AM Ford 'group 6007' engine assembly weights, 1974 numbers:
302-2V - 470#
300-1V - 439#
Both automatic weights..add a some pounds to each for manual flywheel.
240/300 I-6s are NOT heavy..they ARE heavily built and quite long stroke..:D

thats a 1974 302...when it was cast iron or steel..the newer ones are SIGNIFICANTLY lighter...but the 300 still weighs about that or a little more..

I would have given ya $50 for it if it were closer.. and I had known about it... :flipoff2:
Mine's rolling over 200K now.

I just weighed an '86 5.0, completely assembled except for intake manny and front pulleys, and with manual flywheel attached, before shipping it out of the shop..465# on calibrated shipping scale. What is supposed to make the newer engines lighter, pray tell? Last I checked the blocks and heads are still cast-iron.:shaking:

this one had 80k on it, the thing sat for 5 years after i was only used to move a trailer around a local cement yard
85f150dsel 10-19-2006, 11:28 AM bmc - the FI's have an aluminum intake, the exhaust manifold is more tubular with lest extra cast. Other than that i couldn't see anything of a newer six being more than 10-20lbs lighter.
So they weigh roughly the same or a little less than a 302 with the same displacement.. that's heavy?
85f150dsel 10-19-2006, 11:52 AM .. that's heavy?
they're heavy duty and can stand a ton of abuse...thats all i care about
YamanX 10-19-2006, 12:03 PM Shoot I'd would have most def. giving you 50 for it. You guys need to live closer to me :)

i think thats my main problem, i tossed axles, trannies, t-cases and motors away many times, nobody seems to want anything ford here, they all want jeep stuff
