: i'm one lucky boy!! (pics)
offroadr35 05-02-2002, 03:58 PM well, i just picked up my bronco from Rockstomper. Scott built me an awesome cage. I can't say enough how great he was to deal with. Anyway, between the time it was in the shop to now i also picked up a new tow rig and trailer. Here are my toys parked in my school parking lot. Think they get some looks :D :D :D it makes it a pleasure to be in huge debt at the age of 20 haha.

Sillyneck 05-02-2002, 04:01 PM how much was that trailer? was it bought new?
offroadr35 05-02-2002, 04:04 PM I bought the trailer used for 1900. It is SERIOUSLY beefy. It's 94" wide i believe and rides on 2 7000lb axles with brakes on both.

fcfred 05-02-2002, 04:33 PM that looks great

That was my idea, Scott gets no credit for that. HAHA, if you saw my front fenders you'd see why i need that. In the rear there are tubes that go across the wheelwells, effectively bracing all the rear sheetmetel so i diidn't feel that i needed to go exo there. It turned out great i think, although i'm still not sure about my choice of silver:confused: .

Welby 05-02-2002, 05:04 PM The front end looks mean  :D
offroadr35 05-02-2002, 05:07 PM haha it looks just like this icon
looks good, im thinking black would have looked better. at least match the bumper color weather you decide BLACK or silver.

I really dig the silver bro. Only thing I would do differently is paint the bumper silver too. Nice cage!
Scott@Rockstomper 05-02-2002, 05:16 PM I can't claim that the fender bars were my idea... but I really like 'em. Might have to do 'em on somebody else's truck sometime too. :) Coby's exo (for which I recall being royally roasted on this board) had two similarly shaped bars, but they were above the fenders, with lower tubes near the wheelwells. The tube is substantially bigger on Steve's--this one's 2" tube, Coby's was all 1.5".
As for the silver, it looked bad at first, in the shop, under the flourescent lights, but in the daylight, looked a lot better. Better still after a couple days; I wasn't real sure about it at first, but I like it a lot more after seeing it more.
And Steve, thanks very much for the props! :)
offroadr35 05-02-2002, 05:21 PM you da man scott. thanks so much and good luck! (btw, i'm serious about needing a job so come august when your business is blowing up gimme a ring ;) )

LOL i just sent you and email but never mind :flipoff2: must be the medication :D
wild1 05-02-2002, 06:19 PM Wait a minute. You are 20, in school and just bought a trailer and a super duty plus you can afford to have a cage built in a killer bronco? What is wrong with this picture? You sell drugs or have a rich daddy? You may be in debt yes, but you still have to pay for the stuff. Tell me your secret.

a few secrets.... First of all, i knew when in 1993 that I wanted an LR Defender 90. I started working every job i could get and saving everything so that when i was 16 i could buy my dream truck. Also, my stepdad is a very succesful investment banker and invests my money for me (read...multiplies it). ok, so i'm 16, i have this D90 and i catch the offroad bug. i bought it outright and kept working so i used that money for mods. Anyway, yadda yadda yadda, i just recently sold the defender for over 30 grand.
Now, as for the superduty, i got it at 0% financing with no money down. That means, with the money i have saved including the D90 money and all my profit from investments, i basically can pay my payments and never touch the principle. Of course i still have to work hard, but it's doable.
My last secret...buy now, worry about paying later. HAHA, this one probably isn't good, but i find that i can make as much money as i can motivate myself to make.
ok, that's all for now...basically a lot of hard work and a little luck. Thanks for the compliments...
-Steve
EDIT: it also REALLY helps that my parents pay my my tuition, room, and board. My parents had to work themselves through college and say that they worked so hard so that i wouldn't have to do the same, so they won't even let me pay for school.

That's where Scott comes in, his price was EXTREMELY reasonable. I don't want to give an exact price because that will sort of pin him down, but i don't think anyone would have built it for cheaper.

Slagburn 05-02-2002, 06:43 PM That is a cool Bronc. I checked it out before the repairs and it looked way tweaked. How'd you roll it, or was it just a super-hard flop?
Anyway, looks beefy as hell now. I like the front bar deal.

just a hard flop. I took the gf out on a saturday to lefthand canyon. i was just messing around, not doing anything intense. A combination of a lack of concentration and trying to show off for my gf ended up with the bronco laying on its side. No big deal, it just showed me that i needed a beefier cage :flipoff2:
-Steve
your email bounced back to me. oh well never mind.
sweet rig!
wild1 05-02-2002, 07:36 PM Cool. I was I had that kind of direction 10 years ago.
mad1577 05-03-2002, 02:44 AM cool rigs man! Are those full width dana 60's? If so what kind of rim backspacing do you have, and how wide are your tires? They look like 14.5 wide swamper sxs.
Thanks
-Mike
rpenner54 05-03-2002, 06:51 AM Dang! That makes me wish I could afford for Scott to build me one NOW! LOL Ah well in a few years I will... :)

Yeah, now most of us struggle to get tires for our DD/Beefy Trail rig. :(
ranger 05-03-2002, 07:43 AM I'm missing out, only thing I see is small boxes with red X's in them.

yup, full width 60s, 14.5 swampers and i believe my backspacing is about 4.5" but i'm not sure. My overall width between the outsides of the tires is about 83".

Honkylips 05-03-2002, 07:49 AM not bad for a college student:flipoff2:
Nice setup.
Gordon 05-03-2002, 06:49 PM So you are from California and Maryland and you had your cage built in Colorado. I mean Scott is good but that is a long drive. Btw I don't like the looks of the cage, but that is just me, looks like you really are one lucky boy!

well, i'm from baltimore, go to school at CU-Boulder, and my mother recently moved to Los Angeles. I'm not sure i even 100% like the looks of the cage, but i designed it for function rather than form. For the functional aspects i wanted, i don't think it could have been done any prettier.
