ok dodge half ton dana 44
chevy 3/4th ton dana 44

so i tore the chevy 44hd axles and carrier out. I really dont like the idea of having 3 shafts of the dodge cad axle and would much rather have only the inner and outer on the passenger side. Would my chevy axles fit instead of the dodge 3 piece shaft and the drivers side?

oh yeah, im swapping ring/pinion/carrier. I took it out and installing it the same in my dodge halfton 44. See any problems about that? Im going to reuse everything, as in its in very good condition.

I'm not sure if the inners are different lengths too, but the outers definately are. You'll have to use the Chevy outers with the Chevy parts. If the inners are the same length and same spline count, you may be able to get away with it (might be able to change the side gears to match splines if the count is different). If not and you have to have the one piece inner, you're going to need to get an aftermarket one. there are also some CAD eliminators out there that might be worth looking at.

The inner shafts won't be the same length.
Do a google search on axle shaft lengths. I know it has been brought up a few times about getting rid of the CAD shaft.
I think the housing is the same length as pre CAD housing so gears from a pre CAD housing may fit but again you need to verify the actual length of the shaft?
The outer shafts should be the same if they have the same style of hub (internal or external).
Changing the gears may be a little above what you would want to do.
I have done gear changes on a few rigs and there is more to it than swapping everything over.
I think I would sell the Chevy housing and look for the correct axle shaft with the money you make off it.

If the dodge is leaf sprung (don't know anything about ramchargers) why not just swap the whole axle and call it a day?

Well, its a bolt in swap persay, but i really dont want to go through the work of taking the steering arm off the chevy and putting my dodge one on. Its just easier for me to do swap everything over to my dodge 44, plus to get the expierence of doing it.

Im just going to put the chevy outers onto my dodge inners. Should i tac weld the u joint caps on the shaft?
