I just got a '91 Dodge with the old 12v cummins, and apparently these trucks didn't come with a tach  . What's the easiest way to hook up a tach on these? Is there an electrical pick-up or maybe a cable type hook up?Thanks for any input.

early 91 or late 91? IE, is it intercooled?
In 91.5 they started putting a plug under the dash for a dealer option tach. They are almost implossible to find, BUT Isspro makes a tach that will plug into this harness. It is what I have and was pie to install.
Other than that you can get the tinytach like posted above or an autometer diesel tack that senses revolutions on the alternator (requires calibration).

The tach plug didn't appear until 92. You can go tiny tach as I did, or use one that hooks to the alt or a crank sensor. The tiny tach is only good if you want to know what your cruise rpm is (if you are lugging, when to downshift etc.). If you want to use it like a shift indicator, get an analog tach.
