The Chassis is being built by Tony Vanillo at North American Off Road. It full Chromo and we will get it as a roller in the next few months. We will finish it up and then roll it up to Crandon for a couple of hot laps!!!

This is exactly why a lot of people I know have stopped watching the show. Enough of the shit no one can afford to build. How about more real world stuff? That Duramax motor in the fake hummer cost more than my whole 2002 crew cab dually. It's cool to see this ultra high dollar stuff, but give us more stuff we can actually use.

Thats what makes the show cool. If they cobbled together some of the junk I do in my garage then the show would suck.

Just my 2 cents but i think a nice variation from builds like the cheap jeep upgrades to this every other weekend would bring back some more viewers. I know i like anything offroad, but can easily relate to the cheap since im in college and the budget is tight.

Way better.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the Gorilla finished and that trailer you two made is kickin. Ought to be a great combo. A shame about the Ranger, but shit happens and the next round will be better.

Ian from Xtreme
10-25-2006, 09:41 AM
I love this part...time to answer the questions.
The Chassis Construction:
As I said before the Chassis is being built by Tony Vanillo at North American Off Road. He is a premier Trophy Truck guy from the West Coast who is now getting into building CORR trucks. He builds them for everyone from the Balwins, to Jeremy McGrath. I am sure that he will deliver us a chassis that can handle the wrath of CORR. He was choosen to build the roller for a couple of reasons his skill, his experience and more importantly time.
E.G., some of the hard core wild desert trucks you guys see take a huge amount of labour, picture this...two rear shock mounts= 2 guys for 2 weeks. We don't have that kind of time
The Builds:
Calm down....I never said the CORR truck was all we were building. The 60 will be finished, the Cheap Jeep is coming back for some axle upgrades and we are building an entire buggy out of left over parts from other projects. I really try to keep the shows balanced with projects that will make everyone happy. The show would get kind of boring if we built the same linked tube buggy on 60's every week.
The Gorilla:
We had some "supplier" issues with the Gorilla but as of right now it is in the glass shop getting windows than it will come back to Xtreme to be finished up. You will see it get finished and then tested in the first part of 2007. I know it seems like a long time, but really it has only been 14 months since the truck was dragged into Xtreme.
Anyway, hope that answers all you "questions" keep em coming if you have more.

I can't wait to see what happens with that left-over parts buggy with the dana 50 and 10 bolt combo and rear steer

i think its better that they show high doller stuff because its cool to see that stuff built and who really watches the show and goes out and builds what they build. there is way more tech/ cool ideas then ever will be on the show. i think there should be less builds and more wheeling.

why would i want to watch a show on how to do more ghetto fab shit on my rig that is worse than the crap i already have cobbled together? i go to comps and look at the bling on there rigs and go home and ask myself how i can make something similar but more affordable.
as a result i don't have the blingest truck on the trail, but it wheels pretty damn well. better than my driving skills anyway:flipoff2:

You're on pirate my friend. As far as most of us are concerned if every show was about building up buggies, jeeps, yotas, etc. for trail riding and competitions we would be thrilled. I'll admit that a few of the tow rig/trailer episodes were cool too.
However, every time I see a rig built to drive in places I could take a ford focus (although much slower and with a little damage) I cringe and think, "Oh well. Maybe next week will be good."

why use a t400 instead of a c6?
65Chevy4x4
10-25-2006, 03:45 PM
t400's are cheaper to build, lighter and better than a built c6. Also that's what everyone that runs corr uses so spares are easrier to come by if you need it.

Do people actually believe they can do desert racing in a ford focus? Those cars are barely able to drive down the streets. I understand that it's a TV show and has to appeal to a broad range of interests. The intelligent ones will try to look for ideas they can use to innovate rather than just imitate.

Jesus on a stick! You really need to get out more! Do you even know what "Pro 2" is? Here's a teaser link from this weekend's race in Chula Vista.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9nMFJe2HWg
Now, if you can "sleep" within 100 feet of one of these beasts - even when it's idling - I'd say you need to revisit your motivation for "being into" off-road of any sort. I'm seriously.
EDIT: CORR 101 - The roaring, really, really scary-looking ones are Pro 2 (2wd) & Pro 4 (4wd). Typically 800-900 hp, 3700 lbs. minimum (Must be 10 lbs/CI, and some run BIG motors.), over 93" wide in the front, something like 15" front travel and 20" rear. At this track, the Pro 4's were about 3-5 seconds a lap faster than the Pro 2s. The smaller, bumpier, bumble-bee sounding ones are Pro Lite (4cyl, 2wd).
AND WAY TO GO IAN!!!!!!!

What made you go with a Pro-2 vs. a Pro Lite which would is a cheaper class more accesable to most of your viewers. Not bitching just curious.
Mike, we've been looking into this for a while now, and while there is some difference, there really isn't a whole lot more to building a Pro 2 vs. Pro Lite. I mean, the Pro Lite guys spend $20-30k on one engine to be competitive (Read: 400 + hp but reliable). And some pay $5-7 k on the trans. The main components (shocks, rear end, trans, engine, wheels, etc.) are pretty close in price if you build a high-end pro lite. And you only have a little bit more in tubing, glass, etc. The increase in sponsorship/exposure opportunities I would think more than make up for the difference. Don't get me started on Pro 4, though.
We're seriously considering making the jump to Pro 2 ourselves. This weekend got my brother all fired up. We've had the standardized plans for pro lite and pro 2 since 1999, and now they list the basics on CORR's site. We were thinking of building two the first time so we could sell a chassis to recoup some costs. Want one??? :D

To Ian,
What I am curious about is, what drives the on air builds? Do you and Jessi have a sit down and say we got lots of emails on this one particular subject "lets do it", or does someone contact you and give Powerblock lots of freebies to give them free advertising time? Or do you and Jessi think some projects "cool" and then go ask the producers for 100 grand to do a build up?
Or do the producers determine what you will build?
Like I said I'm very interested on what drives the show projects.

Hey Jeff,
The answer ro your question is "yes" it really is a little of all those things but the final decision for Xtreme is part of my job. The only thing that never realy happens is the "someone contacts powerblock and gives us a bunch of freebies" the projects are planned and then I call on people for the freebies...now in some cases I might be thinking of going one way and when I call for a part the manufacturer might have something really new and trick that they want showcased, if it fits the build we often try to use it.
My job is to basically, co-ordinate the projects, plan the shoes content, and then write the scripts for Xtreme 4x4.

Billy M's link really sums it up. Pro 2 racing is probably the most intense/fun to watch motorsport racing there is bar none. To win you must go 110% from the start to the finish. Basically these are motocross versions of sprint cars. These trucks corner like no tommorow yet can leap and jump like a desert truck. Yep...Corr Pro 2 racing is racing at it best!

As for the comments, keep up the great work. I love seeing a little bit of everything on the show. Not all of us can be fully immersed in every bit of offroad recreation/competition, so to me it's nice to see what other stuff people are coming up with and maybe even picking up a few ideas.

I hope you go in detail about the front suspension on this. I have been trying to figure out a project like this for a while but I want it street legal.... I have some high hopes once the buggy is done. Very interested in seeing this project on the show.

nice build ian. i met jessi when i was at wyotech. she is the real deal. knows alot more than alot of people. it was shitty to see the ranger take a crap like that but i waited every episode to see it done so was very happy to see it back out with the spider buggy. i agree with the once a month wheeling and more episodes. im going to bootcamp on the 2nd of nov so there better be some good shows to watch when i get back. keep the show on TV.
I can't wait to see the moon buggy build up!

Ian:
That Pro 2 should be some great shows and should fly! It will be great to watch some upper level racing machinery being constructed. It isn't everyday that fans can watch what goes into a racer of any sorts. So any plans to actually enter a race with that Pro 2?

Cool, thanks for the sneak peek! I like seeing the wide range of rigs you guys are working on, from cheap junkyard parts to reuse to shit I'll never be able to afford. Even though a lot of guys couldn't afford to build some of the rigs, there's a lot of areas to pull ideas off of.

Ian,
Looks great! I'm always glued to the couch on saturday mornings to see what y'all are building next.
It was nice to meet you in the shop a couple months back. I use to work across the street from y'all with Enterprise Construction. My buddy Preston and I were invited inside by Mike to take a look around. I really enjoyed learning about the project ranger and it's tribute to the previous owner including the sticker inside the cab. Its nice to see projects like that.
If y'all ever want very close by places to kick up some dirt, let me know...
Until then, I'll be on the couch watching you break a sweat :smokin:

sorry crappy connection. anyways
I MEAN COME ON, even pro rock-crawlers use at least 1 currie anti-rock. That thing rolled like a mother around any turns when you did the payoff
do-all buggy my ass, I'd like to see run in some dunes w/ it or do anything where you turn doing an excess of 15 mph
more like a do-nothing buggy: too long for rocks, too unstable for highspeed

Could you please write in a Bikini photo shoot for Jessi. She could pose on the Toyota LC. :smokin:

Maybe you should search for re-runs of "two guys garage", I bet you would find the epesode where they change wiper blades exciting, can't get more real world than that. I for one don't want to watch people bolt shit on crap that I can afford.
you got that right, i got sick of watching old guys doing the simple crap and not getting dirty, i want to watch some killer 4wheel drive having a tube treatment them get bashed on the rocks and broke. because thats the reason of owning a REAL 4x4 , tearing the piss outa it and having to work on it agian, not just building a high dollar 4x4 that dont even seen gravel roads. i summarize in saying that ian and jessie have a great show, one that i find worth getting up to watch. even re-runs, great job and keep producing the same high quality show.:D
