: 2+ year TJ build
sommertime 10-25-2006, 09:02 AM I figured that I would finally post a buildup thread. Started with a rear stretch.
I cut the frame just behind the body mount under the doors and had a metal fabricator break me some 1/4" wall c-channel to fit over the frame snug. I braced the frame to keep it square before I went to cutting

sommertime 10-25-2006, 09:05 AM This was my finished wb............not the correct ride height.
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/sommer23chris/Jeep/e181c_DSC00631.jpg
I eliminated the track bar and heres how the control arms lay

sommertime 10-25-2006, 09:15 AM You can also noticed that I upgraded my camera too!!
Finished the stretch and here is the corners and CJ hinged tailgate
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/sommer23chris/Jeep/64d8.jpg
Then it was time for the cage and new PRP seats

Had the same metal fab guys build me a sheet metal box with a lid to fit the factory fuel tank
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/sommer23chris/Jeep/jeep.jpg
sommertime 10-25-2006, 09:19 AM Then we get finally finished with the seats, cage, stretch, corners fuel tank and this is what I ended up with..........but i couldn't stand it running and ready to wheel.....more to come.
Went on 3 trips
Clayton twice Nocona once

geberhard 10-25-2006, 09:20 AM I like the setup, I did a similar tank move up and box, but did not go so high. Your build is coming out pretty cool! I think the front hide height is lower because of all the stickers :D Gotta balance some to the back. JK!

Good work!
Joel77 10-25-2006, 09:24 AM What axles are you running? The rear looks like a 9".
Nice jeep man.
Yes very sweet project.
Dirk
sommertime 10-25-2006, 09:42 AM The rear is a 9" with hd tubes, 35 spline molly axles, nodular case 5.13's The front is 60/9 hybrid all molly with 35 spline. 42's/104" wb in the picture.
sommertime 10-25-2006, 09:46 AM I can't leave out my cheap ass tube bender
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/sommer23chris/Jeep/DSC02335.jpg
I can't take any of the credit for the engineering of this lets just say it was a handed down secret.
sommertime 10-25-2006, 09:50 AM Lets get to this year..........well after the 3 trips I took on the new rig/tires the ole 4.0 with 176,000 miles just really wasn't liking the upgrades.
Time for some displacement
LT1/4l60e

sommertime 10-25-2006, 10:11 AM Since I am going to put my rig down for a while might as well add some stuff to the plate.
Stretch the front 6" to get a 110" wb

sommertime 10-25-2006, 10:16 AM Move the track bar behind the axle and shorten the track bar to fit
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/sommer23chris/Jeep/Picture032.jpg
Add length to the RE control arms
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/sommer23chris/Jeep/Picture034.jpg
I already had the fabbed in for my hydro-assist just got to make sure the 2.5"
ram fits
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/sommer23chris/Jeep/Picture033.jpg
And add some bling
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/sommer23chris/Jeep/Picture029.jpg
sommertime 10-25-2006, 10:21 AM Now for the flat dash........this was a virgin pic I have changed my mind about 20 times but you get the general idea. I pulled the stock column and just did a quick connect column straight to the steering valve. I also moved the whole dash up 3-4". Gonna be filled with Autometer guages and a 12volt guy ingition switch/winch control panel.

Jeepmangled87 10-25-2006, 11:23 AM not to bad keep up the good work! Where you wheel at?

Add length to the RE control arms
Can yuo give some more info on your extended control arms, it somthing I considered for the future.
Btw the way, your build looks nice.
Ford_KTM 10-25-2006, 02:37 PM you're useing a 2.5 with hydro asist?? What box and pump are you using??? Won't it steer really slow with the 2.5?
tweba99 10-25-2006, 02:54 PM Nice build. Is that an RE track bar cut down?
mucknet 10-25-2006, 04:13 PM I'd like to see more pics of your dash as you get a chance :)
Looks good. I dig the 60/9 combo :)
Tjeepfreak 10-25-2006, 08:51 PM yeah I'd really like to see more pics of how your dash is coming along... I have my jeep in a billion pieces right now and have kinda been tossing the idea about making a new dash for it around but not sure whether I wanna go that route or not
Dookey 10-25-2006, 11:20 PM Can you get more specific on the LT1 install?? I'm stuffing one in my rig too :D
sommertime 10-26-2006, 05:20 AM not to bad keep up the good work! Where you wheel at?
I am a Clayton rat I like Hot Springs, I see you posting all the time on Cowtown. If you see me out........my name is Chris. Thanks btw
sommertime 10-26-2006, 05:22 AM you're useing a 2.5 with hydro asist?? What box and pump are you using??? Won't it steer really slow with the 2.5?
NO full hydro/ PSC worked the LT1 pump and I installed a resevoir.

I will post updates, its been a slow project due to the fact that I am a redneck and its hunting season:grinpimp:

Can yuo give some more info on your extended control arms, it somthing I considered for the future.
Btw the way, your build looks nice.
I just cut the stock RE arms the short side and sleeved it with DOM I can't remember the exact size, I just went to Metal Supermarkets and fitted the control arm right there.
sommertime 10-26-2006, 05:42 AM Can you get more specific on the LT1 install?? I'm stuffing one in my rig too :D
Its a 96 LT1 from an Impalla SS, rebuilt the tranny. Sunray Engineering built the adapter its an awesome adapter call them they do these swaps everyday. Had LT1350.com work the harness and ECU talk about some fast awesome work, they eliminated all the VATS and added relays for ex fuel pump and cooling fans, and labeled the harness to finish wiring.
sommertime 10-26-2006, 06:44 AM Heres what I started with.........

What adapter are you talking about? My LT1 is out of a 95 so I don't have to deal with the VATS. I have a call into lt1350. Gonna have them clean up my harness. Thanks for the link and info :)
sommertime 10-26-2006, 10:40 AM The t-case adapter. Theres is the shortest one out. www.sunrayengineering.com
zx11kllr 10-26-2006, 10:46 AM Damn, you've changed it up a lot since Megarun. Great build keep the picks coming.
Dookey 10-26-2006, 11:03 AM I didn't see what tcase you are running. Still sticking with the atlas?
sommertime 10-26-2006, 11:05 AM Atlas II 4.3
Dookey 10-26-2006, 11:21 AM Should be enough gearing with the auto :D I'm running a 231 crawl box and d300.
What do you plan to do about gauges and what ex fuel pump are you running?
sommertime 10-26-2006, 02:07 PM I am going to use Autometer guages and a e2000 external pump.
Dookey 10-26-2006, 02:17 PM I'm excited to send my harness off to lt1350. He said it drops 13 pounds of harness!
Where did you get the e2000? I've found a mallory but it is crazy money. It is interesting to see your buildup going on at the same time as mine since they are so similar. I'm moving my front axle out as well and going full hydro. It is good to see where you placed your novak motor mounts.
sommertime 10-26-2006, 02:22 PM Its for a e2000 ford van with the 460 really high pressure and the right gph. You don't happen to know Buddy from Kansas? He moved here to Texas in my dads' neighborhood.
sommertime 10-26-2006, 02:24 PM I also went with the trimmed down harness..........no emissions at all smog pump, the only thing I kept were the O2 sensors.
THAT E2000 is a Autozone part number $79.95
Dookey 10-26-2006, 03:12 PM I went to High School with a Buddy. Is he from Augusta?? I want to say his last name was Harrison.
Dana told me to keep the O2 sensors to help out with gas mileage. I gotta get mine pulled off and sent to him soon. :) Did you reuse the stock gas hard lines and run flex line to your tank and motor??
sommertime 10-26-2006, 03:55 PM I am gonna use flex line, maybe steel braided if my wallet can afford it.
Gummi Bear 10-26-2006, 08:40 PM I can't believe that you're tearing it down again, Chris. Hope to see it back together again soon. It's looking good, and I'm envious of the wheelbase. :D
sommertime 03-03-2007, 09:50 PM http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/sommer23chris/Jeep/DSC03856.jpg

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/sommer23chris/Jeep/DSC03854.jpg
Went with a quick connect steering wheel with a PSC steering valve and column. Instead of the stock TJ column.
The dash will be stuffed with Autometer gauges and this custom 12Voltguy fuse/ignition panel
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/sommer23chris/Jeep/Picture036.jpg
sommertime 03-03-2007, 09:51 PM After I installed the LT1 I was having problems mounting the essentials. IE the ECU, air cleaner, and a few other things, so this is my newest upgrade and they will be off to the powder coater!

39bogger 03-17-2007, 09:00 AM anymore updates on this kickass tj
kwrangln 03-17-2007, 05:01 PM Did you ever get around to boxing in your frame extension? Any cracking since you used a verticle edged patch instead of spreading the HAZ over a longer area of the frame?
I know you said redneck and all, but any plans to finnish grinding off the origional link mounts?
Good looking build from a distance, but the lil things kill me.
smurison14 03-17-2007, 11:27 PM cool build

Good looking build from a distance, but the lil things kill me.
I boxed the frame in the same time a stretched it. No cracking what so ever there are a couple of cross member braces that I did not get in the picture and I also kept all the original body mounts.
As far as the front control arm brackets I have ground them off, It just took longer than expected. I still need to grind the original track bar mount off the rear axle but its not in the way and If I was to sell the axle later would help to have that.
pizza 03-18-2007, 10:05 AM What are you doing about the power steering pump? Have read that those pumps wont handle offroad use.

jeep jake 04-03-2007, 01:01 AM did you run in to any problems swapping out the steering wheel. I was told that know one makes one for TJ's due to the airbag. Then I was told that all the jeep steering wheels should work, that there interchangable.
