I could use some opinions via a poll about what would be the best leaf spring choice for my YJ…. 1st some history….
1993 YJ 4.0 / running STOCK YJ packs SOA
Currently on a D30 /35 ……….. going to D44/ D60
35” BFG KO muds
Here’s what I’m thinking
Rancho lifted Waggy springs
JC Whitney stock waggies
R.E. 1.5” SOA leaves
Stock YJ leaves

none of the above... Waggy fronts for more wheelbase, and XJ's on the rear

Here my thinking.. Running a D35 right now and moving to a D60 rear.. 1st thing the driveshafts going to have to be shortened to run the D60 is I keep the same wheel base....... (when I had the shaft made I had the shop make it long travel.. (ton of spine contacts before it'll seperate))... moving the rear axle back 2" should solve that problem.. but then I'll have tank clearance issues...... friggin Jeeps

you dont need any lift to run the 35's SOA. so that kicks out 3 of your choices, leaving the the stock yj's
basing your WB change on your current driveshaft length is stupid. IMO. it should be less that $50 for someone to shrten a shaft.

Stock YJ's with a 60 rear and 35's will have too much axle wrap. You will need a traction bar if you go that route.

traction bar is not a problem.. I made one... :

Do the RE Xtreme 1.5 SOA springs and you will not be disappointed! Also it is best to put in the traction bar which you already have it.

I have the RE packs but the 6 leaf ones are too stiff.

i wonder if you wont have clearance issues with the fuel tank with the 60 in a stock location. i voted waggys, but id keep them sua and ditch the gas tank so you can stretch. if you use the 44044's you wont have to trim much from the rear quarter unless you are going huge tires. (i guess if youre putting a 60 in thats a given though)

Running 7 leaf waggys on the front from S&G Enterprises. P/N 97-400. I think theese are same as what Whitney sales. Seem to work fine so far. (fingers crossed)

RE 1.5" Springs. Get the 5 leafs, the 6 leafs are too stiff unless you have heavy bumpers, spare tire, and a lot of crap.

re: stock waggys.
As much hype as they seem to get on this board i was VERY dissapointed in them. Granted, they were used, so thier previous lifes history is unknown to me, but we thrashed all 4 of them within 7 days on the trail. rear traction bar, SRS cj, 42's and a v8.
we went alcan 4" waggys and removed 2 leaves. giving us 2" of lift that was much needed. so far we have about 10 HARD days on them with no signs of any problems.

I recently have switched to RE 1.5 SOA and am extremly pleased they flex as well as any leaf spring I have seen. Have been abusing them for several months now with no issue.
Shipping to east coast however sucks!!!

I been using the Re 1.5 springs soa for 2 years now never had any problems. I am going to keep my Re springs in the front and extend my frame 2" also run xj springs in the rear for more wheelbase.
If u decide to go with Re springs go to Dc4wd.com he has the best prices.

How come there was no option of bacon packed springs?
Anywho, RE for me.

NONE OF THE ABOVE, i run custom built Alcan Springs that are waggy length, i'd rather spend the money once and get a custom spring set up for my rig that WORKS. I've seen the RE 1.5" SOA spring and i can out flex the HELL out of that POS. Those rancho 7 JC Whitney springs snap more than bobby brown, and stock YJ springs will be sagged out in a few trail runs.

Run a 0" lift spring in front such as the military wrap ones from FT. If you do alot of uphill climbs that need throttle go SUA for the rear. Try 4.5" lift springs and relocate the shackle mount to below the frame. SUA in the rear requires no traction bar and has less antisquat.

Traction bar looks great. I would recommend more gussets for stregth at the axel end. I managed to hit mine on a rock (on the axel end) and it bent, eventually breaking and splitting the tube on the lower bushing where the weld from the lower bar comes in. Lucky someone had a welder along for that trip.

Well something that I found recently and I am tring on my XJ is that the front springs for a late 70 early 80 chevrolet is almost the sme dimension as the waggy springs and alot easier to find. I ordered some from Comp Spring.

Running coils in the rear so no help there. I went with 44044s in the front and pulled 2 short leaves out. They work, but IMO they still allow too much axle wrap. I am thinking of trying something else or just going coils and be done with it, however the thought of taking the my ride out of service again is not appealing.
