Anyone tried using a Hendrix chassis (or the like) on a OE frame? Just tossing some ideas around, seems like a Hendrix kit would be around the same cost as a bender set up and tubing just a whole lot less work.

Do it, some guy in the Ford section has been working on this same project for about a year now. its adaptable to anything with some imagination and fab work. Its just tube man !

Im building one right now. Soon as I can get my cab off I'll post some pics. All the dimensions are fine. My chassis is actually a custom x-chassis instead of a formula toy. So it looks like a complete buggy from the rear, I had him just leave out the flooring in the front. I wanted to reuse the front half of my factory frame so as to reuse the engine/trans/transfer case mounts. Im 4-linking my rear so i will cut off the factory frame right behind the 4link cross support. I think its like 6.5-7 ft or frame I will be hacking off.

This is by far the cheapest way to get a buggy. I dont know how pricing is where you live but out here in southern california is a fabrication melting pot and pricing is high. I got quoted 7500 from AJ at the BajaShop and 6500 from some small no-name shop and that was just to run the tubing not to tie it into anything like the shocks or tank.

I SERIOUSLY thought about doing this to my pickup, but in the end I didn't have the time to do it right now. When I am ready to get another rig its going to be a tough decision between a Rubicon, or an F-toy cage on a stock truck frame. Thinking this way opens up the possibilities to almost endless combinations, giving how many trucks you can find in the boneyard.

The Baja Shop quoted me Chromoly, thats all they'll use. And the welding quote was for mig its another 2k for Tig. The other quote was just some hack that way over priced himself, he didnt even say what metal or welding. Im sure there are other shops out here that are cheaper, but the baja shop builds great chassis. I dont have time too look around and get a quote from everybody, hendirx chassis look good are proven and the price is right.

My buddy has his formula chassis mocked up on a 79 K5. Hasn't fully welded it down since he keeps changing his mind on drivetrain. I'll see if I can get some pics off him.

Any luck on the pics? Do you know if his chassis is a 2 or 4 seater?
