It's Awn!!!
OK – so I get this call from Lance…
” I’m all pissing myself - I just got a Jeepspeed and I’m gonna win the Baja 1000!!!”…or something like that.
And it reminds me of a long time ago when I hailed from Lances (red) neck of the woods and had the same experience. Here I was in Sacramento - never been to the desert, much less Mexico – and getting ready to race my first desert race, the Baja 1000!
And I sucked – got 9 miles!!
But I never looked back and never regretted it – many years of racing and met a bunch of great friends that helped along the way. (Also spent way too much money, crashed a lot of trucks and occasionally won a race or two…) I wish Lance, Camo, Mike, Bob and others the best and hope they have a blast!
SO…why come out of retirement now??? Here’s the deal – I want to help Lance and his band of misfits get to LaPaz (or at least out of Ensenada). I’ll send some spare parts, provide some people and help plan logistics for the Nor-Cal team.
BUT…I think a Baja Beer Bet is in order. I’ll team up with Eric “Big Air” Filar in his Alloy / Precision Gear / Fat City Jeepspeed and we’ll see who gets to LaPaz first. We’ll share resources and help each other as a PBB 2-Jeep team, but the last 50 miles every man for himself! If neither team makes it to LaPaz, whoever gets further wins - the other team will buy all the Cerveza (and rice and beans)!!
Viva El Baja Mil!!!
To be continued...

While we are very serious about free beer - we are really helping each other down the peninsula (till about the last 50 miles...then demolition derby!)
I'm sure we both could use experienced help. PM me your info and I'll get you in the loop. Thanks!

well it needs to be noted that Ron is a hell of a stand up guy, even after DNF over 200 miles north of the finish they drove down here to pay t the debt. Both crews had a hell of a party last night and we got back to the rooms at 4am
every thing is still pretty fuzzy right now but when we get sorted out the story should fly.
ALSO:
the reason 1702 DNF was not due to a break down but they stopped to help Tracy Jordon and Kenny Bertstrom who crashed very very hard and it was a 4 hour wait for medical help to arrive on scene. team 1702 stayed with the injured until SCORE medical arrived on scene. SO huge props to 1702 for helping fellow racers in their hour of need. in my book that makes them the true winners.

the reason 1702 DNF was not due to a break down but they stopped to help Tracy Jordon and Kenny Bertstrom who crashed very very hard and it was a 4 hour wait for medical help to arrive on scene. team 1702 stayed with the injured until SCORE medical arrived on scene. SO huge props to 1702 for helping fellow racers in their hour of need. in my book that makes them the true winners.

I talked to Camo earlier, Tracy and Kenny are okay, very banged up, but okay. Huge props out to the 1702 team for staying with them!!!

Wild..... baja is wild. I got out at rm 236 and had no story of the finish until now. Glad all are ok. Amazing adventure and danger.

I couldn't have had a better first experience. From trash talking in Ensenada to icey cold free beers in La Paz both the 1701 and 1702 teams were a great bunch of guys to hang out with.
Ron you are my hero for making good on the bet, proud to know you, thanks for the beer!

Jeff,
This no BS - I had the most fun of all my Baja races this year. There could not have been a better bunch of guys and gals between these two teams - I'd be proud to call each and every one of you a friend!
But I would like to F@#*ing win one some year!!!
Hope to see you at Off Road Impact in Jan.

What do you think Lance can we take Ron under our wing next year and get him that win?

I think there might be room in the station wagon for him. ;)
