Hi I have a 1986 k10 with a 350 and a four speed with a hydraulic clutch. I want to swap in a NV4500 does anyone know any problems I will have, do I need to shorten the drive shafts or any thing of that sort. And do I need a converter to get my transfer case to hook up.

Thanks for any help. Cade

Your NP208 will bolt right up. The bellhousing is the trouble spot... different (larger) bolt pattern on the NV4500. Not sure on the driveshafts lengths.

I swapped a NV4500 into my 82 3/4T 4x4, that originally had a SM465. I had to change out pedals. My trans is a 94 w/6.43 1st gear. Had to change clutch from a B&B to a diaphram, but found one that is 12" like the original. Used pedals and master cyl from an 85, and slave cyl from the 94 with no problems. My truck has no lift, and my front drivesahft is about 3 inches from the slave cyl, but I have never flexed it enough to touch. (I don't rock crawl, but do use rather harshly at times) Front and rear shaft remained the same length. Only part I had to fab was a 3" spacer for the trans mount.

If you have a 465 with the external hydraulic bellhousing, the earlier Chevy nv4500 with the lower gears will fit. The NP208 will fit as well.

This link has dimensions of the bell housing bolt pattern and bell housing index diameter.

I swapped a nv4500 into my dually that I tow with. Its a 80 model ton 4dr 2wd. I had to uses the nv4500 bellhousing. My tranny was a early model with the low first gear. There wasn't enough material in the drivers side hydro bellhousing to redrill the bolt pattern. I also swapped in a 85 hydro style pedals and used the hose setup from a 93 along with the same year slave and master.

Also, what I did, since the 4500 shift leaver was about 4" further back was, instead of cutting another hole, and covering the original, I cut out my hole with an offset, turned the piece around, and welded back in. Could not use my original case "console" but.....case shifter is still in original position for the moment. (Cummins swap in the near future, so I'll try to find a 2wd floor pan, and move my case shifter fwd, as the Cummins swap will probably move everything back 2 more inches)

My bad on this one. The SM465 bellhousing will not work, AA has a bellhousing that will fit the nv4500 and and a bracket for the clutch slave cylinder. There are 2 different AA bell housings depending which nv4500 version you have. I am looking to do this on my 85 burb as well. Got the NV4500 already. Just need more $$ for the AA bellhousing.

I may have an extra early 4500 bellhousing, but would have to look and see. Changed one of my Chevys to Cummins power.

Are you talking about the bellhousing with the internal clutch slave?
