is it true that black steel rims dont fit the 96 tacoma because of the caliper?? ive seen them on tacoma's but for some reason les schwab is telling me that they dont fit tacoma's!!! i dont want to have to buy spacers for them so if anyone has a site that they know they sell black steel rims for tacoma's that fit that would be great! thanx :D

do some reading about backspacing, and when you get steelies, do your wallet a favor and order them from summit.

Wheelers Offroad sells them. (http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/tacomawheels.htm)
taco's with four-piston calipers require specially made wheels. wheelers has them made by the manufacturer specifically for this app.

You guys are such jackasses to flame this poor, helpless newbie. Of course your rims fit, he's trying to fit black steel rims, and your rims fit because they were primered from the manufacturer! :shaking:

I don't think it has anything to do with backspacing. I read over on Yotatech that the way the centers are designed they don't flare out soon enough from the WMS to clear the caliper or something like that.
I have no idea what's up and I don't own a Taco so I don't care but I just saw a thread about it the other day.

Your right, but your 01 has two piston calipers. I went through this with my 96 and the only black steelies that fit are from wheelers. he's not asking if wheels fit your '01

you're exactly right.

or just stick with Toyota wheels, they've got the alloys in basically 3 versions (FJ, Taco/Tundra or Sequoia) and Steelies that you could mod yourself (DIY beadlocks)

the problem with a lot of the black steel wheels is there is a little lip that runs around the outside ring where the wheel mounts. it goes in just 1/8" to far and is what will rub ur caliper. u have to options if you want to run that wheel. grind the calipers a bit to clear the wheel or get a 1/4" wheel spacer. both have been tried and true solutions and can be read about for days over on ttora but if your going to buy new wheels and want black steelies just get them from wheelers cause they dont have the lip around the ring. problem solved.
