first: Please dont hurt me im a newbie and i know its not tuesday!


I want to build a prerunner on a budget, im looking at a 1994 toyota with the 4cyl in it.

Looking to lift it by 8 or so inches as it sits really low

Im just wondering what type of coils i should be using to raise it, im looking to use parts off of other vehicles (wreckers?) to keep my costs down.

Look in the classified ads on some of the prerunner websites,you can find a good project truck that has alot of nice parts already on it for fairly cheap.It would save you alot of money in the long run and you'll have a much nicer truck.There are a few toyotas on there that would be perfect.Its better than throwing junkyard crap at it.How much is a budget for you? that truck doesn't have coils it has torsion bars. How little money do you call budget. A budget prerunner is around 5K in parts to make it offroad worthy and where it doesn't break every trip out. Just pick up a used total chaos kit, either balljoint or uniball (around 1K) some 10in shocks, SAW torsion bars, fiberglass, and some rear leafs and you'll be set. here's a link to a couple ads realting to your project.

i wasnt planning on a hardcore prerunner, just lift a 2wd truck to look cool, offroad it a bit, no racing or jumps, and to haul my quad

the truck is 3500 canadian, i was thinking about 1000 bucks for the parts

i wouldnt wheel it hard, just up some hills etc, i just hate how it looks so lowrider like at the moment.

just search for a fabtech spindle and upper arms which will get you around 5in of lift, and I hate to say it but the only other option to get the extra lift is a body lift. than throw on some 33x10.50 or 32's and call it a day. It's mainly going to be a lifted 2wd truck, not a prerunner, but it'll look half way decent.

If you want to lift it the cheapest way to do so is to crank up the torsion bars and maybe get some ball joint spacers($120-@150 new).Also you can buy aftermarket torsion bars($150-$175 new for each) for more lift and a smoother ride because when you crank a stock torsion bar so far it puts it under too much preload and makes for a stiffer ride.If I were you I would run far away from anything fabtech,rumors are that they are being sued by quite a few people right now(and possible going out of buisness) as they have had parts breaking like spindles.Do a search on dezert rangers website and there is alot of talk about it.I've personally dealt with them in the past and they are far below par on the customer service and knowledge(nice way of saying they are a bunch of asshats).Remember to check out what parts you can buy used from private parties,you can pick up some nice stuff for a killer price and alot of times the parts are like new.You still are going to need to buy some decent shocks and tires and little things that you dont think of until you get to that point but you can do it if you look around and spend your money wisely.

A prerunner truck is a truck that is used to prerun courses for a race truck,it can be 2wd or 4wd.:D

A lifted 2WD has more ground clearance than stock, and 5% more off road capability, maybe a little more with bigger tires.

A built prerunner truck has mid to long travel suspension, and 100 to 1000% greater off road speed capability.

ESB Non-Race Front End, TC Shackles, Deaver Springs. About as budget and capable as it gets

ESB is closed, Build you own shackels or buy some of mine for 50 buxs, jsut get some downey springs if you don't plan on running anything into the bed. and get a used Total chaos kit. Also ESb made only one kit for the 2wd trucks, so I have no idea what your talking about " non-race kit".

when I say "non-race" kit I mean the 13" kit vs the 18" kit.

Also, ESB is not closed. My buddy just purchased a 3-link kit and 18" race kit from them about a month ago.

Good thread, as Im looking to do the same to my 88 toyota, but Im willing to spend more $$ to get it capable in the desert.

your talking about a 4wd toyota when his is 2wd, that's why i didn't know what your talking about with the non race kit. I do know that mike is making some kits on the side but it's very limited. I'm now producing a kit very similar to the total chaos kit running uniballs, heims steering and everything. Selling it complete w/o any hardware, heims, or uniballs for 1300 buxs or 2000 with all the heims and bolts to put it on the road. heres a pic of my toyota I built . 85 2wd extra cab, 21in of front travel, 18 rear, c/o and bypass up front, bypass on rear, 35's, fully caged, 4.3L v6 ect...

Just look arould. my friend got his for 200 bucks. It came with 2.5 kings in there rear. 3 1/2 link. Fully cage in the back. Finders and racerunners up front.

All he had done is tires painted the cage. 5points got them for free. racing seats. and some few other stuff. Thats one of the best deals I have seen

ive always wanted to do this. take a 2wd yota and hack out all the front suspension and build A-arms that mount in the middle of the front of the truck so you can get lots of travel. figure out the steering, cut the sit out of the wheel wells, and use the stock knuckles with coil overs. then hack off the frame from behind the cab and tube the rear so you can make a suspension that would sit the truck low with lots of travel. mount a peice of steel channle down behind the cab so i can haul my dirtbike and tie the tube into an exocage and run 33s with 4.56 or 5.12 gears and go bomb around cart roads and jump it. god i wanna

your idea sounds good until you said centermounting you truck. that makes everything alot harder to do, you can easily get 21in of travel with stock pivots and even more if you move them in just slightly and change up the centerlink. there's a lot of people who tried to do this and end up with worse camber change and ride than a shitty built ranger.
