ok, i know, i know, newbe question at its finest, but i'm still asking...
this is for my XJ, currently on BFG 35s, pretty lightweight, spooled in the rear. 15x8" rockcrawlers, hopefully with Rockstomper beadlocks sometime soon. it is my only car, but i ride a motorcycle to school/work usualy. i drive the jeep when i have a girl with me, and on trips. and definately to and from the trails. my wheeling consits of just about everything, rocks, trails, sand, muddy trails, but i try to avoid deep mud, we dont get along. i'm a spoiled brat and i talked my dad into paying for 1/2 of my tires.
these are my options as i see it...

BFG M/T KM - 35/12.5, 156.95, that's what everyone runs, and is a little small
GY MT/R -35/12.5, 206.95, my friends think i need a more agressive tire, and i kinda agree.
Swamper TSL - 35/15, 204.95, pretty wide, unsure about the whole on road aspect.
Swamper TSL - 36/12.5, 172.95, kinda narrow, unsure about the whole on road aspect.
Swamper TSL radial - 36/12.50, 181.95, kinda narrow, unsure about the whole on road aspect.
Swamper TSL radial - 36/14.50, 244.95, expensive, unsure about the whole on road aspect.
Swamper SX - 35/15.50, 209.95, wide, i heard that SX sidewalls are too stiff for a lightweight vehicle, unsure about the whole on road aspect.
Swamper SX - 36/12.50, 192.95, kinda narrow, i heard that SX sidewalls are too stiff for a lightweight vehicle, unsure about the whole on road aspect.
Swamper SSR - 35/12.5, 199.95, kinda small, heard they wear fast.
Swamper SSR - 35/14.5, 246.95, expensive, heard they wear fast.

now that i've named almost every tire on the market, which one should or shouldnt i get?

if you don't care about onroad performance get the bias TSL or SX. If you do, get the MT/R, they are basically the best of both worlds. Also, do a friggin search :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: i know no one has asked your EXACT question with your exact truck, but i guarentee you can make your decision based on the zillion similar threads on here every week.

sorry, i forgot, i did search, and i have done tons of research, but i thaught i'd ask anyways.
i'm leaning twards the 36/12.50 SX or TSL
what i realy want to know is, are the SX sidewalls too stiff to flex in a light truck?

I have had good luck with the ssr's. I do mostly mud and they were on my yj when it was a daily driver but have been swapped out for boggers. The old lady's tj has ssr's on it and it is a daily driver too.The only problem you might have with them is if you run alot of rocks. The sidewalls are not as strong as boggers or sx's but are better on road.

i say go boggers for there excellent street manners! and talk about quiet for those long road trips.:flipoff2:

Three things:

1. MT/Rs are 156 for 35s, not $206. http://www.tirerack.com
2. MT/Rs are $165-180 for 37x12.50s. Search.
3. MT/Rs are better than BFGs in mud. I've run both, in the same size, on the same truck, in a lot of mud.

That said, if it doesn't say Super Swamper on the sidewall, it's an all terrain. Get a set of 36" TSLs (like me) and keep your eye out for a bald set of 35s for those highway trips. Around town driving doesn't hurt swampers much if you rotate & watch pressure. It's the highway that eats swampers alive.

ok, you taked me into it, actualy the "girl" i refered to in my first post talked me into it last night. its gonna be 36" swampers, but should i get TSLs, TSL radials, or TSL/SXs?'
and i knew about the whole tirerack MT/R thing, but i took all the priced from 4wpw, cause i figure deals can be had on any tires.

What do you mean your rig is light? There is no way your XJ is lighter than a competition CJ or YJ, TJ, that runs SX's. Go for it. If I had more money, I would.

hell ya my XJ is light, D44/30, no frame, no roll cage, stock rear bumper, no winch. but ok, i'll go SXs, americas has a 30 ride guarantee thing i just found out about, so if i order SXs and dont like em, i'll go with TSL radials.

swampers for off-road and MTR's for on and off road, thats the way I would go.:skull:

go a 36x12.5 swamper weather it be the sx or tsl. they are not as narrow as you think and a wide tire just doesnt work on a cherokee

get the sx. youre gonna get beadlocks probably anyway so you can run whatever pressure you want on the rocks. besides you have an 8" wheel which will hold that tire pretty tight.

thanks, thats what i wanted to hear... does anyone have any pics of 36x12.5? i'll search, but io figured if i was posting anyway.

about the ride garauntee, i'll look into it more, but as i recall, second hand info, america's tire co has this thing where you buy tires, and if you dont like how they drive you can exchange them. someone i know did it, but i never talk to him. i'llpost back if i find out more.

Get some bias ply swampers on BL's for trrail riding, and 35x12.5 MTR's on steel rims for street. The MTR's will pay for themselves with the money you save in gas, cuz them swampers are heavy. Plus, the MTR's will still work well offroad when you don't feel like changing out the tires, and they have excellent road manners.
Besides, if you only pay for half of it, then you can probably afford to do it!
