when flipped (to get a pass side diff), can you reuse the stock axle shafts?

Thanks
Ron

WOW! Good info...Too bad there isn't lower gearing for the Eaton...I'm thinking I'm gonna' be wantin' lower than the 5:89's in the diffs I have now...Time will tell though...Of course you guy's in Timm land, are probably sportin' his new crawler box anyway right? :)

I think I am going eaton. Screw dana 70. So many choices . . .

while we are on the subject how offset is the pinion after the flip? Has to be more than 5in, probably more like 10? Whats stock rover again?

Stock Rover...6.5"...That's the t-case out-put (front and rear)...A Salisbury is about 5.? offset and the standard housing is 6.5"....Funny.

BTW, I did find a couple of D70 local out of old Fed-Ex trucks...About a 4.5" off-set...$100. Semi-float though. I was just about to go get my trailer and pic one up, then I measured my 70 again...And low-and-behold it's off-set 1.5" to the right! So I'm *only* 5" off.

I then called Jessy (high-angle) and chatted with him about this. His feeling (strong) was that with a 36" rear drive-shaft and that offset, it translates to a 11 deg compound. Close, but not toooooo bad. He said we'll go with a CV at the pinion and live with the bad phasing at the diff. I told him my rig will never see anything over 50mph and then the deal was sealed...No worries with that much compound angle. Point the pinion at the t-case out-put, 1350 CV and I'm done.

Ya but for the price of adding that second cv you could have the whole 70 out of the fed ex truck and probably a spare to boot.

then again, time is money

You sure the axle matches the t-case offset? Some reason it looked like the axle was more offset than that. Wait. I have spare axles, I will go measure.

Ron

Yup, 6.5 in. 5in in the axle shafts (short is 10in shorter) and the diff is about 1.5 offset

Timm Land???

Tha'ts a good one D.

Timm Land is rapidly changing. He will be relocating this summer, so it's all I can do to try to finish the 145 before he leaves me!

The crawler box will have to wait for a while. He's not up and running in a production sense right now. We just got all of our stuff moved on Thursday and Friday he took off for CA.

The crawler is foremost in his mind though (after my 145! :flipoff2: )

The Rover axle is offest further to the passenger side that the T-case. I was looking at it the other day, and it looks to be about 1"-1.5" further over, making for about 7.5-8" offset. Thats just me eyeballing it so it could be more or less.
