Building an AOD [Archive]

I want to put an AOD behind my stock 351. Everytime I see anyone talking about building one they are talking $1000-2000 or more. There have got to be decent rebuilds for $500-750. Hell, I only paid $750 for the 4r100 in my old excursion when it went out. I see ACDelco rebuilds going for around $500. It seems you could get a decent rebuilt unit and add whatever shift kit you want to it, throw a big cooler on it and be done with it.

Advice? Input? STFU?
