I am just getting into my first forray into the realm of axles. A few questions.

Will Scout D30 gears work in a CJ D30? Can I avoid some of the tricker parts of regearing by using the carrier and all out of the scout D30?

I grasp the concept of a spool and mini spool. My guess is that the full spool is stronger. How much stronger? Is it a waste of time/money to put in a mini spool (Dana 44)?

Im no axle guru so i dont know about the gears/carrier being swappable but im sure someone else can chime in...
As far as spool vs. mini spool tire size is a factor. with a dana 44 if you go too big on tire size youll be breaking stuff anyways so what im saying is if you stay within a reasonable tire size for the dana 44 a mini spool should hold up... that all being said as cheap as a full spool is i personally would spend the extra cash and not worry bout it... hth

a mini spool still relies on the strength of the open diff case and cross shaft

they can snap when you get on the skinny pedal

full spool, no worries, just a solid chunk of metal, nothing to break (other than a shaft or gearset:D )

honestly, there isn't much to setting up backlash and preload on a carrier and a full spool isn't much more than a mini so I would consider it money well spent

this doesn't apply to beef carriers like a 14 bolt of course
