i have a 61 CJ-5 that i am going to drop a 4.3 Fuel Injected motor into. i am going to just buy a whole donor vehicle with a 5 speed and use all parts off it, i will maintain the 4.3 bellhousing and fab up an adapter to bolt to my t-18 so i can use the donor vehicles' cluch system(hanging cluch pendals). have any1 ever done a such thing? and about the input shaft, my plan was to cut the input shaft off the t-18 that is now fitted to my 4cyl, and weld the 4.3 in its place. (neck it down to nuthin, get it staight as a beam of light and turn the weld down). Has any1 ever Fabbed up an adapter or input shaft liek that or should i send the input shaft off and biult ?

if the back of the 4.3 block is the same as a small chevy, you might be able to use a lakewood scattershield bellhousing and drill it to your t-18. i think the cut and weld method would be a bad idea. i dont know anything about the demensions of either's clutch size and input shaft so i couldn't help you there. just getting the ball rolling................

Check out the Novak-Adapt web site, there knowledge base hase a lot of info on this conversion you want to do, this is the web page: http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/knowledge_gateway.htm
This page will tell you a lot about this exact conversion, as what applies to a SBC also applies to a 4.3: http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/ford_to_gm.htm
Here is some of the info, or probably what you really need to know,
One very useful feature of the NP435 and T18 transmissions is their rather simple and affordable adaptability to a GM bellhousing. No adapter is required for this conversion. By machining the front bearing retainer from the transmission to a slip fit into the GM bellhousing bore, by machining the tube of the retainer to the slip fit diameter of a GM throwout bearing, and by some drilling and tapping of the transmission case and GM bellhousing, this transmission adapts nicely to the GM bellhousing. Call you would like us to perform the machine work on your retainer and supply the pilot bushing.
Eric, at Novak, is very up to date on these conversions an would have a lot of answers if his web site doesn't allready answer your questions. And it sounds like a very simple machining job with a special pilot bushing and you would be good to go.
Now I have a question, is this 61 CJ you have a 134 f-head with a T18/T98 engine transmission combo? If so, are you interested in selling the bell housing, fly wheel, clutch arm, etc. from this when you put in the 4.3. If so email me at padelon@eudoramail.com I am very interested in this set, and yes I saw you are in Ca., but still want to know if you will sell and how much. Hope the info helps, Andy
