the dana 300 should drop right in behind where the 231 was. same 6 bolt round pattern and 23 spline input. you need the pass. side drop 44(or a flip kit), shifter/s, maybe a cj-7 skid plate(t-case drops on the other side now). that will get ya started.

Hold on just a second.

Early YJs with four cylinders used a 21 spline output shaft from the transmission that will not work with the D300. Before you get too far in your plans, pull down your current T-case, and count the splines.

It was pre '91 YJs with four cylinders, and some six cylinders.
You may need to swap out the tranny to bolt up the D300.

AFAIK, you will need a 5/8" spacer btwn the tranny and D300 (this is after you switch to an AX15 since you need the 23-spline output shaft in your tranny). Also, the Dana 300 shifter linkage will probably rub on your tub a bit so you will either want to cut out a bit of your floor near the bottom of the transmission hump, or hammer it for clearance...or install a 2" lift.

You'll also have to build a new tcase support or cut a hole in your current one and build an extension for it to cover your Dana 300 since it will be angled pretty far down.

If you want the case closer to horizontal, you'll need an indexing adapter (if you can find one that is about 5/8" thick, that would be idea 'cuz it'll let you bolt the D300 to the tranny). Of course, this means you'll have to cut even more metal out of your floor. But since you want twin-sticks, you'd have to do that anyways.

Its a 7/8ths spacer not a 5/8ths... and i Make a cloking ring (Blitz Cranker)for that application with 5 clocking positions.
