I would have posted under the other motor swap page, but they are arguing which car motor or 4 banger to put in and raggin on the guy who said hp and big tires...well thats what I have in mind...I would like to put a v8 in a samurai with a HP front 60 and regular rear 60 in the back...the question is if anyone has done the v8 swap...and yes i searched and didn't find anything...so I was looking for some help...do you need a body lift to fit it? do you need to simply cut the front clip off? will an auto tranny fit under the tunnel? pics are always super helpful...thanks

if you searched and didn't find anything than you might as well forget it, it isn't possible.

YOu can fit a V8 with the clip still in there, the inner fenders will need modification though. YOu could get away with not doing a body lift, but it would probably be really helpful. The tunnel will need modification for sure unless you have one HELL of a body lift.

It has been done and posted here.

The trans tunnel wil need to be modified severly. I am doing a 4.3/700r4/np205 swap with no body lift and my tunnel is getting cut bad. If you ran a 8 cylinder you would need to mount your radiator in the bed of the samurai or evtend the front clip to get it in. The radiator will barely fit with the 4.3 and the 8 cylinder is a whole cylinder longer. For power ratio on a samurai I think a 4.3 is overkill and a 8 cylinder is rediculouse and too much work.

well i like overkill cause then i never have to worry...the build will get the D60s...at least 38s...and if i have to cut and bang a bit so be it...i'm just wondering things like rear shaft length...i'd be moving the rear diff back to the end of the frame and the front one all the way forward...but with fullsize running gear...what kinda shaft length would i end up with? i'm sure guys have done it...so lets see it:D

You didn't search very hard ... and I wouldn't even think about giving those Lightning guys a single penny of my $$

Anything can fit in anything man.. just depends on what kinda fab skills you have and what kind of compromises your willing to make (fenderwells, firewall, trans tunnel??)

i am aware of the fact that anything can be done with enough fabing...its just i was hoping some guys have done it already and would be kind enough to share their experiences/difficulties or other help...

Every vehicle is different. Measure up the parts you want to use and measure the space you're working with. It is not hard to do. Your combo will be different than everyone elses because of axle selection, axle placement, trans and t-case selection etc. You are gonna have to do some recon on your own and figure it out.

Alright well, you'll lose your inner fenderwells. You'll be doing firewall and trans tunnel mods - how extensive will depend on engine placement (which may depend on the rest of the driveline) as well as trans selection. Even with the super short C4/Dana20 combo from an early Bronco (behind a 302 of course), you'll have a VERY short rear driveline. You will also have to get very very creative with your radiator if you plan on having it behind the grill (unless you push the motor way back through a very hacked firewall - further shortening your rear driveline) - most commonly see them mounted remotely in the bed. Keep in mind the small block Ford is smaller in every dimension than just about any of the other big 3 competitors and with mine shoved back all the way to the firewall, the front pulley was just barely behind where the factory grill would be. What else do you want to know?? If it was that easy, you'd probably see more of them.

well thats a good start...thanks vermin...i am planning on putting a 302 with either a c4 or c6...the thought of a doubler crossed my mind (since I have 203/205) but that would greatly shorten the rear shaft again...even though i'm looking to move the rear axle back so that its at the end of the frame rails...what kind of shaft lengths approx do you have?

If you dont wanna go too overboard with the body, just do a 2" lift.
Itll give you a little more room without making a mess out of the fuel filler and bumper alignment,ect/.

A 2" lift gave me enough room to clear my V-6,T-5,Dana300 combo with only a few good whacks with a sledge, to clear the major protrusions......granted the T-5 is a small tranny. You better expect to be cutting a fair amount of sheetmetal before its all over.

The samurai had a perfect ratio as far as weight a power goes. With the 1.6 swap, it gives the zukes enough gojo to go over, through just about anything. You go putting a v8 in 1 and not only will it kill that whole concept but they look goofy as shit when you have to lengthen the front end.It will be front heavy and not good for anything but bragging that you wre able to do it.If anything, put in a vortech v6.It still heavy but not as much and less mods to make it fit.Thats just me 2cents of zukin for 10 years.

well then all odds are in my favour...thats pretty much exactly the build I am looking to do...with more flex, less motor, better suspension...but otherwise pretty much like that...thanks for the link [Memphis]...do front clips on sammis unbolt? to take out inner fender well i mean...or do they have to be cut off?
