Continuing on with the V8 conversion on my 75 FJ55. I got a hi torque starter off of ebay orginally to fit the SM465 I was going to put on the pig, but then I decided to go with the 700r4 and now the starter won't fit the flywheel for the 700R4. Anyone have a recommedation for a hi torgue starter that will fit? Autozone sells a GM type hi torque starter with a life time warranty for $139. I see the same type on ebay for around $120. The one I have now is like the tilton that Jegs sells.

Thanks for help.

why not change the flexplate to match the starter?
they make 168 and 153 tooth models(around $60):D

unless of course the trans is in already:emb2:
then it look like you are on the right track...the autozone price is comp. to summit.

Just curious have you checked with a rebuild
shop and can they chag the front of the starter
to make it fit???

I think you need a 168 tooth flex plate to go with your 700R4. You should be able to get high torque starters from Jegs or Summit for around 149 to 230 dollar range.

The 153 tooth flexplates are hard to find...I found one but I had to use all avaliable resoures to find one.
Of course at that time I needed one BAD. If I went to the junkyard today, knowing my luck, they would be all over the place.:skull:
