This would be Ring Gear to Carrier?

Just went 'round on that subject locally.

Buddy bought gears n' such from an almost-local shop.. "torque the carrier bolts to 60lbs-ft, not what the package says.."

The second set of ring-gear bolts I picked up for him, since he torqued to 85lbs-ft like the *packaging* says, but none of the manuals.. also said 80-ish on the package.

 uhh I have heard all sorts of BS on this. Sixstates said the same thing as Randy's specs (http://www.ring-pinion.com/t-setupspecs.html) 55-60 ft lbs???

What gives?

on the main bearing cap bolts, I've heard various reports in the 60s as well.

My IH manual calls out ~80lbs-ft for a Dana 44 rear end.

I learned this after I stripped the threads in my front diff, re-tapped 'em, and cheered when I hit 60lbs-ft (spec for a Dana 30 front, which was the manual I was using..) then I was told "No, you need 80.."

Crap.

I sweated every 5lbs increment on the torque-wrench figuring it was going to strip out.. but I got 80lbs-ft, and used red-loctite. :D Even held after I pulled the diff back out to replace the broken LR later..
