spencurai 05-05-2002, 11:48 AM sounds like a plan. i think it would be fine for most offroading. are you still running the stock motor?

Depends who you talk to. I had a GRS 2, 5.29's and 33.5" tall 35's, I smoked the clutch (upgraded petroworks). Put in a 6.1, for 90% the stuff it works good. For vertical stuff I am back to having to gas it a little to keep the motor going. We crawl stuff down here, never been to Farmington yet but if you run stuff like the RCCA lines you may have to gas it anyway.
cooljosh 05-05-2002, 11:51 PM Thanks for your thoughts yeah im still runiing stock motor only upgrades are cold air intake and 2 1/2 exuast. How many posts does a person have to do to get rid of the newbie name? You should come to farmington and see what real wheelin is,its cool here and theres alot of easy stuff for people like mud magnet and alot of insain stuff for the rcaa.
Shrock 05-06-2002, 12:08 AM Not sure but just post this question in the general 4x4 section. Someone there will help...maybe camo the moderator. I know he knows.

ROCKILLER 05-06-2002, 09:48 AM I'd say go lower on the gearing but if it's a $ issue to get new gears then you could just wait and see. dont get rid of your 35's in case your gears aren't low enough with the bigger meats.
billj 05-06-2002, 12:13 PM It depends entirely on the type of trails you run. I have a GRS 2 type case with 4,88 diffs and 35" TSL/SX tires. I´ve got LOADS of torque for the kind of running I do, which is deep mud and ruts (no rocks). In fact, I find that my biggest handicap is a lack of tire speed in reverse.
Next mod will be a bigger motor...:p
zukstur 05-06-2002, 08:32 PM josh , you will be close with your gearing. Ive seen you wheel and if you are turning your zuk into a competition rig then i would go with some gears like 5:38 's or what ever you can get in that range.
ROCKILLER 05-06-2002, 09:33 PM you can get 5.38 or 5.89 for those axles
cooljosh 05-06-2002, 10:38 PM Thanks Rick and evryone else for your input.Do you guys know what kind of price im looking at for the 5.89s?And how low would that be?Ive never bought axle gears before.where would be a good place to buy them?Im hopeing to have my zuk going by the start of june becouse of a rock crawling comp i want to do but i dont know. i still have to get gears, brake lines.and fab up some steering. One more thing does any know how to build home made rock ram steering? I cant affored the 1100 dollar agr set up.Oh yeah Rick how wide is your zuk outside of tire to outside of tire? Right now with my 35s mine is 77 inches can you believe that? Its hard to get used to the way it looks but im hopeing it will do good (hopeing). Well thanks again Josh
High5 05-06-2002, 11:27 PM i have a buddy who was running a 4to1 and 5.38's in his d44's with 36 sx's and it was not low enough. for hill climbing and places where you needed to stand on it it would do great but for slow crawling it just would not do it. he sold his 4to1 and is waiting for his 6to1 to come in. i definatly say go with 5.38's or 5.89's.
zukstur 05-09-2002, 07:58 PM Ive had good luck with Randys ring and pinion and truck treats. Ill get the measurements on my width tomarrow.
Rock Ram steering? is that the steering with two cylinders mounted on the front axel. If so check out the salvage yard.for the steering valve i bet you could use one from a gleaner combine. Ill get some phone # E-mail me off line.
Rocky Road 05-10-2002, 05:06 PM I ran 5.38s and a GRSII in my Zuk with 35's for awhile. if you're going to 38's, I'd definetely vote for 5.89 gears.
Rudezuk 05-10-2002, 06:08 PM Save your money on your gears......get a Sumo Case!!
Im running the Sumo case with 37's and 5.38's........its a little low for the street but its cool in the rocks!
With the 4.88's you will be good for 36's and still have an awesome crawl!
