Stock birfs aren't so bad IF you're the kind of guy that's mindful of your situation. First of all, NOT using the ARB all the time helps. Second, keeping sharp turns [while the ARB is on] to a minumum helps.

If you tend not to be this mindful, longs are a good upgrade short of replacing the whole axle.

You might get more responses if you post up other specs on the project e.g. tranny combo, tire side, steering setup.

Chances are, once you post tire and steering specs, you're gonna get an earful [or should I say eyeful] about at least upgrading the knuckles as well.

BTW, the 45 seats passed the first road test to Mesquite with flying colors!

Bad combination, locker, wheel cranked all the way, reverse, heavy foot. :nuke: Nothing sucks more than wrenching on your rig when you could be wheelin.

x2 on the longs. Just put em in and go.

If you go bigger than 35's you need Longs. You can wheel for a long time on stockers if you do like Mark says. I have proven that over the years. The reverse thing is a real deal. :nuke:
That said I just recently went to Longs in my cruiser. I have already been in a situation where I would have backed off with stockers but did not this time. The Longs held fine.

I run 35's on mine with a 400 sbc, 465 and stock axles with a lock right in the front and welded rear. In the 5 years I've been wheelin it I've only brock 3 birfs. If you know what it takes to break them you can make them last.

The point behind the Longs is not having to deal with this part

I put 30-spline Longs in mine with a Detroit in my cruiser... 2F, sm465, dana300 with Lo-Max 4:1's, 4:11's in the axles and 36" radial swampers...

I enjoy not worrying about the birfs..... Piece of mind is a wonderfull thing....
