I have this old dish washer laying around. What if i get a drum of SafetyKleen, hook it up to a pump and hook that to the inlet on the washer. then use the drain to return it to the drum. Just stick my parts on the rack set it on heavy load. and come back in an hour with bright shiney parts.

Red Green engeneering at its finest.:p

its gotta work:rasta:

Not sure if you are serious or not, but the inside of the dishwasher might actually melt, or degrade form Safety Kleen solvent...thats stuff works great...(have a small washer in my garage) but its nasty. Also might want to disco the drying element...

I've got a bigger parts washer now that I aquired, and I'm going to try to use something less shall we say mind altering. ;))

some of the parts cleaning stuff says not to use on plastic. also how about the seal in the dishwasher pump can they handle the chemicals.:D

Forget about the plastic, a dish washer is full of rubber seals and have you ever sen what SafetyKleen does to rubber seals?

Besides that I don't think that the solvent would react well with the 140º + temps.

Dumb idea from the get go.:flipoff2:

Why use heavy duty cleaners:confused:

Wasn't dish soap and deterdeg meant to cut through grease:flipoff2:
I use my dish washer in my house all the time I use a mixture of simple green and dish soap workse good for me. just make sure you get al the really big chunks of grease and dirt off first.

my dishwasher gets its hot water from the hot water heater therefore you wouldn't have to worry about 140 degree temps

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

Figuring out a way to recycle the cleaner would be a good idea.

And would need to figure out some screening/filtering for chunks and stuff at the same time.

Have fun...I'll be using my zep machine.

I clean all my parts with gasoline, kerosene and paint thinner. Works quite well. For doing those little parts, just get an empty paint can, clean it out, fill it with paint thinner, and just toss em in in a wire basket. Leave em for a few days, take em out, look good as new.

A Hot tank is easy!

One steel 55 gallon drum (free), one Cajun cooker $40.00. http://www.cajunoutdoorchef.com/IMAGES/82pk.jpg plus a propane tank.

One 50lb bag on Sodium Hydroxide beads or flakes~ 25.00. Then make your own rack/dip basket.

Come awn, you been hangin with Hooder?

Place a open head steel drum 30 gallon or 55 gallon on top of the cajun cooker. Add parts to drum. fill drum with water so that parts are just covered. light burner. slowly add 1/4 to 1/2 lb of caustic soda for every gallon of water. I said SLOWLY!!!. Bring to a boil and turn down the burner to a light boil for 30-90 minutes. Turn off burner and let settle for 30 minutes. Remove parts and rinse with hose. Even when cool the cleaning mixture will burn the shit out of you! Cover drum and band it shut. The cleaning mixture can be used 6-8 more times before it's spent. The drum will rot out after 1-2 years of use so be careful were you store it!:rasta:

 Wooo-hooo!! I can't believe it could be that simple.

Guess I am gonna hafta scare up a drum and go hunt down the burner. Now where do you get the ash?!? And do you mean by hot that it is caustic hot or it just takes hella long to cool down? If its the caustic kinda hot, what do you use to extract the parts with? strainer basket?

Thanks again!
